About this listen
Three words Bethany never thought her 34-year-old healthy, organic-eating, wellness-teaching yogini body would ever hear? “You have cancer.” Even more shocking? She was excited.
A compassionate companion for anyone facing the C word, My Guru Cancer is the inspirational story of a woman who dares to drop the fight, welcoming breast cancer into her life as a wise teacher of self-growth, love, and gratitude.
In this down-to-earth, funny, and heartfelt confessional, join Bethany on her two-year journey into remission as she applies the practical tools of inquiry to meet each challenge: diagnostic testing, treatment, losing body parts, finances, relationships, emotional exorcisms, and the fear of death.
Go beyond simple positive thinking and learn how to cultivate a healing mindset that transforms any nightmare into a blessing, creating a life of laughter and peace. True freedom from cancer is a state of mind. And you don’t have to go to war or wait until you’re pronounced “cancer-free” to find it.

Story
The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, "It's not the problem that causes our suffering; it's our thinking about the problem." Contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once we have done The Work, the thought lets go of us. At that point we can truly love what is, just as it is.

In the summer after graduating from college, Suleika Jaouad was preparing, as they say in commencement speeches, to enter “the real world”. She had fallen in love and moved to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a war correspondent. The real world she found, however, would take her into a very different kind of conflict zone. It started with an itch - first on her feet, then up her legs, like a thousand invisible mosquito bites. Then a trip to the doctor and, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, a diagnosis: leukemia, with a 35 percent chance of survival.

Powerful book about finding an empowered path with cancer!
‘My Guru Cancer’ has been a complete joy to listen to! I truly enjoyed the author’s voice, she embodies her story with magnificent candor and beauty. I was with her through the highs and lows and laughed and cried with her. It is a rare treat to witness the narrator capture the essence of the story in such a vulnerable and real manner.
I found this book to be hilarious at times, refreshingly honest and ultimately, vastly liberating to witness Webb find a sense of liberation with her thoughts around cancer and life itself.
As someone who is on a cancer journey myself, I truly appreciated her ability to speak her truth and felt myself less alone on my path with cancer.
If as a society, we embodied the courageous zest that the author shares here, the world would be a much more equanimous place.
I highly recommend listening to this audiobook, you too can shift your thinking around cancer. Whether you are going through cancer or a family member or friend is, this book will inspire!

Inspiring, Humorous & Uplifting
This is not just the story of a cancer diagnosis, it the story of a young women faced with a situation that turned her world upside down and how she dealt with it. Her humor and insights into her own limiting beliefs inspire & -oddly enough- entertain at the same time. Can cancer be fun? I’m not sure about that but I am sure that she gives us a chance to question ourselves and how we limit our own happiness even in the darkest of situations. I loved hearing her own voice and the passion behind it as she narrated the book.

Real, Raw, Authentic
I am a cancer survivor myself and found this book very relatable. Bethany shares all aspects of her journey with breast cancer, while adding humor along the way. She talks about The Work by Byron Katie and shows the reader how to ease our fear by asking important questions about our thoughts. Even when going through such a difficult diagnosis Bethany proves that life can still be amazing! I highly recommend this book to anyone touched by cancer.

Beautiful story -make peace with cancer
I came along the Kindle for “My Guru Cancer” early in my cancer journey. The title piqued my interest. I was in a weird headspace after finding out I had stage 2 melanoma. I was afraid of death and treatment, and trying to suppress all of my feelings to put on a brave face for my family. This book, through the story of Bethany Webb, introduced me to the Work of Byron Katie. I can honestly say it has changed my life and helped me escape many of my negative thought patterns. It helps give you a different perspective to look at your thoughts regarding cancer or anything else in your life. After reading the book, I found Bethany’s website and have participated in two of her online support groups. I was so excited to find out that Bethany was recording her book as an Audible because I love listening to author’s read their books. Bethany did a great job with the Audible version. You feel her authenticity coming through her voice. She shares all the good and the hard stuff that came through her cancer journey which I really related to. Through her story, I learn that sometimes what causes us the most pain is not what we are actually going through, but the story we have made up in our head about it. It has helped me with my anxiety around scans and treatment.

If ever a silver-lining could be found...
Then, this book might offer it to those struggling with body changes (from disease, illness, injury, aging). The author presents her story with cancer in a very personal, even humorous manner, filled with lots of learned lessons and wisdom. I definitely was reminded to slow down, get real, and listen to my body. I'm grateful that this book was made available to anyone in need of some inspiration and even some laughter.

This changed my life. I’d give 10 stars if it were an option.
Bethany Webb is the real deal. I read this book last year and when I saw the audiobook was available, I couldn’t wait to experience it again. This book is all about her personal journey and her struggle to incorporate western medicine into her survival plan. She also gives resources to help anyone interested in learning a new coping skill to survive and thrive with cancer.
She explains how to apply a few simple coping skills to survive and thrive.
I’m so grateful that she shared this with the world.
Life is too short to worry about what “might” happen.
I love Webb’s open and down-to-earth attitude. Her words flow amazingly well, and the content is fantastic. I wouldn’t recommend listening to the audiobook with your kids or parents in the car, simply because it has adult language and steamy romantic imagery., but it’s told in a way that I needed to hear it.
This book is not just for breast cancer survivors. It’s an entertaining, informative,,stylistic, inspirational approach for anyone that tends to get stuck in negative thinking.
Great read!
