About this listen
With his three children and youngest granddaughter, Apple-Blossom, in tow, Albert is a little embarrassed by the lavishness of the affair. Yet all that is forgotten when he spots a man he knows. A man guilty of murder. A man who can only be at the palace for one thing.
But Albert is about to be presented to the king, now is not the time to be chasing criminals.
I guess that's why he's Rex's sidekick.
Step aside humans, it's time for the real hero to get involved.

AI is terrible
Enjoyed the story, but the AI was terrible. No cadence no inflections sentences just running together, I didn’t like it at all

Virtual narration spoils the story
Not only did the story sound as though Steve Higgs has run out of ideas for this character, the narration was flat. Previous stories brought surprises and laughter, both of which were in short supply in this story. I missed being able to relate to Albert and wanting to hug Rex.

The timing up of some of the storyline short comings and wanting to hear of future adventures.
It was pleasing to hear the tieing up of some of the storyline shortcomings and wanting to hear of future adventures. However computer generated narration (better than expected) lacked the comfortable English accent and pronunciation of the live narrators in earlier titles. Why couldn't an Englishman's voice be used? (Heck I liked the seemingly older guys!)
The story line was good and didn't necessarily stop the adventures of Albert and Rex.

Virtual voice is not for me.
Virtual voice is not for me. I have listened to all the previous Albert & Rex stories and really enjoyed them. This one with virtual voice left a tinny sound in my ears. The previous reader was very good at reading in such a way that it was easy to determine which character was speaking. Not so with this story.
I will probably not buy anymore virtual voice stories no matter how much I like the author. I hang up my phone if i receive a robocall and I would do the same with audio books voiced by a machine.

Rex does it again
The short story was interesting and fun. It provides a new path for more Rex and Albert stories. The AI narration was OK. I thought it was better than the Patricia Fisher book. I did have to advance the speed, a notch or two so that it did not feel/sound robotic.

Virtual voice ruined the story.
If you loved the series like I did, you may be very disappointed with the virtual voice. Some words were mispronounced and the main character did not have an English accent. It was not what I had expected from this wonderful series.

Flat voice
The virtual voice could not keep me interested in the story. I listened to the whole thing and only know the name of one character. Can’t recall anything the dog did.

The flat, lifeless narration.
Virtual voice is fine for GPS but is no replacement for talent. The narration actually takes away from the author's talent. Too bad,
