About this listen
From actor, director, producer, and author Eriq La Salle, comes the first in a heart-pounding crime thriller series. Every ten years, for the past 30 years, a dozen clergymen are killed, brutally murdered in twisted scenes emulating the deaths of Jesus and his disciples. Now, "The Martyr Maker" has set his mark on New York City.
30 years. 36 priests butchered. His bloodiest masterpiece is yet to come.
The Laws of Depravity follows two NYPD detectives and an FBI agent as they race to catch a serial killer before he completes his last cycle of kills and disappears forever.
Clerical transgressions at the heart of Spotlight meets the visceral horror of Thomas Harris's Red Dragon, for a gritty, dark story about of how some of the most trusted members of society fail. The Laws of Depravity raises eye-opening questions about faith when the lines between good and evil have blurred beyond recognition.

Story
When crime reporter Jordan Manning leaves her hometown in Texas to take a job at a television station in Chicago, she’s one step closer to her dream: a coveted anchor chair on a national network. Jordan is smart and aggressive, with unabashed star-power, and often the only woman of color in the newsroom. Her signature? Arriving first on the scene—in impractical designer stilettos. Armed with a master’s degree in forensic science and impeccable instincts, Jordan has been able to balance her dueling motivations: breaking every big story—and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Babe is a charismatic and widely loved man, a gambler with a gift for gab that often gets him out of tricky situations. He’s also a dreamer, something he shares with his patient and loving wife, Rosie. They both yearn for financial stability and see the land they own as insurance for future generations. But when Babe and a few comrades enlist in a scheme that improbably falls apart, he endangers the little security the family has. On the verge of losing everything, what’s a family man to do? If you’re a gambler like Babe, you double down and risk it all for one big score.

My favorite line in my favorite song about Dallas goes like this: Dallas is a rich man with a death wish in his eyes / A steel and concrete soul in a warm heart and love disguise... The narrator of Jimmie Dale Gilmore's perfect tune Dallas" is coming to town as a broke dreamer with the bright lights of the big city on his mind. He's just seen the Dallas cityscape through the window of his seat on a DC-9 at night. Is he just beginning his quest?

Absolutely Worth It
Crime fiction novels quite saturate bookstores at the moment, and I know there are many books by outstanding authors in the genre vying for our attention. But Laws of Depravity is one of the best I’ve read this year and isn’t to be missed. The end left me eager for more Quincy and Phee and curious to see what they get up to next.
Thanks to the author and publisher for this enthralling work!

Solid religious crime thriller
I don't normally enjoy male narrators because they always try to sound like women for the female parts and they just never do LOL but I enjoyed this narration and how he handled it. The overall story was intriguing also.

Awesome Read
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started listening to this book, it definitely draws you in and keeps you captivated all throughout the book. Tough to put reading. Great read and the prequel at the end of the book was a pleasant surprise and helped answer some questions I had and was thinking about.

Really enjoyed this book. Really rooted for the flawed, compelling and richly woven characters. The plot is well paced and Eriq le Salle did a great narration. Highly recommend!

A page turner!
I loved every part of this book. The story is amazing and kept me engaged from beginning to end. Eric LaSalle voice, which I love anyway, is perfect. I'm looking forward to Laws of Wrath and Laws of Annihilation.

Anxiously waiting
I cannot say enough about this series. Mr. LaSalle is a phenomenal author. He keeps you on the edge of your seat with every chapter. I finished this book in a week to close out the trilogy. I have no idea what is going to feel the void while I wait for the next book. I am hooked.
