About this listen

A smash debut novel from rising star Yasmin Angoe, Her Name Is Knight features an elite assassin heroine on a mission to topple a human trafficking ring and avenge her family.

Stolen from her Ghanaian village as a child, Nena Knight has plenty of motives to kill. Now an elite assassin for a powerful business syndicate called the Tribe, she gets plenty of chances.

But while on assignment in Miami, Nena ends up saving a life, not taking one. She emerges from the experience a changed woman, finally hopeful for a life beyond rage and revenge. Tasked with killing a man she’s come to respect, Nena struggles to reconcile her loyalty to the Tribe with her new purpose.

Meanwhile, she learns a new Tribe council member is the same man who razed her village, murdered her family, and sold her into captivity. Nena can’t resist the temptation of vengeance - and she doesn’t want to. Before she can reclaim her life, she must leverage everything she was and everything she is to take him down and end the cycle of bloodshed for good.

Critic reviews

“Narrator Tamika Katon-Donegal delivers Angoe's debut thriller with the intensity it deserves.... Katon-Donegal shines in the 'before' chapters, delivered in the first person with a poetic rhythm. Her voicing of the terror and violence of Nena's kidnapping and the destruction of her village is at once captivating and horrifying.... Katon-Donegal uses her skills with pace, tone, and accent to differentiate the many characters. The audiobook comes together to deliver a highly impactful listen.” AudioFile Magazine

“This stunning debut...deftly balances action, interpersonal relationships, issues of trauma, and profound human questions in an unforgettable novel.” Library Journal, starred review

“Angoe expertly builds tension by shifting between her lead’s past and present lives. Thriller fans will cheer Aninyeh every step of the way.” Publishers Weekly

I liked the story a lot, though when the narrator spoke in Nina’s accent I had to really concentrate to understand all that she was saying. It took some of the enjoyment out of the book. It was frustrating.

Great story just wish I understood all the narration.

This is an amazing take on an assassin’s origin story. So glad I picked this up. The recording was well done by this artist.

Can’t wait for the next installment.

Amazing Story and Performance

I loved its true depiction of trafficking events that are still happening in the world- because those things need to be heard until every victim is found and saved. It's a great, easy listen with fantastic character readers. I connected with our heroin by page 3. It was a wonderful story.

wow! what a story!

Nena's world comes to a halt, and her nightmare begins when her village is burned and her Father and Brothers are murdered before her eyes. Taken as a sex slave to be sold to the highest bidder, she endures more abuse until freeing herself by killing her new master. When she runs into Mrs. Knight, she brought into a loving family, complete with a "sister."
Nena becomes part of the Tribe, ruled by the Council, and becomes the consummate assassin. From there, her life is about dealing death and surviving the multiple betrayals and enemies of the Tribe. Gritty stuff and not for the faint of heart.

I absolutely enjoyed this story! It was so well written, vividly descriptive-enveloped me in the characters experiences. It’s filled with unexpected twists, emotional subject matter, action and lightheartedness and excellent narration performance!

Amazing story, made even better by the talented narrator. The number of distinct character accents she performed was crazy. It felt like I was listening to more than one person. Will definitely listen to the other books in this series and other books by this narrator. :)

Amazing story, made even better by the incredible narrative performance.

I love how strong the main character is, and how well her struggles are laid bare. My only complaint was with the narrator - she reads v.e.r.y distinctly, which means it's pretty slow. But she's very understandable, and her different voices are distinct.

Great protagonist!

I truly enjoyed this book. It was slow getting through some of the opening credits, etc. However, some of the explanations were helpful in understanding how the book was presented (jumping between past and present). Once I got beyond that initial explanation and into the story it was great! Actually, when I got to the end I went back to the beginning to listen to some of the opening chapters (covering “the past”).

Hooked from the very start!
