About this listen
Codependency has kept you stuck. For codependents, happiness is fleeting. It's there one moment, gone the next. Even when you try so hard to do the right thing and treat people well, stable happiness still evades you. Why is this?
f you're codependent, you may have difficulty standing up for yourself and speaking your truth. You may believe that you're responsible for ensuring others don't feel emotional pain in their lives. It's possible you want to have your needs met . . . . . . but what are your needs, anyhow? To kick codependency to the curb, you'll have to shift your mindset. It's going to seem foreign to you. Maybe even a bit unruly or naughty. But haven't you had enough of living life as a victim to the whims and irresponsible decisions of others?
"Kick Codependency to the Curb" will teach you to take control of your own life while letting go of control of others so you can experience lasting happiness. And you can do this without incessant, nagging feelings of guilt. Your life is here, right now, and it's time to start living it.

The fatigue and the hopelessness—doesn’t it ever stop? Sometimes. But when it stops, there’s the fear and anticipatory anxiety about its return. And it does return. With a mental illness that’s so powerful yet so mysterious, is there any hope? One day, I stumbled upon what I now call the Emotional Discharge Method. Though I discovered it at no credit to myself, it’s what eventually led to a shedding away of depression. What was left when the depression had shed off? A completely new outlook on life....

Story
Negative thinking—it seems to have no end. The question is, can anything be done about it? Negative thinking is a self-perpetuating mechanism. Negative thinking fuels more negative thinking, which in turn fuels even more. Around and around it goes, never losing steam or momentum. All the while, you’re utterly fatigued and exhausted. Ten years can go by, and the mind-numbing cycle still will not have stopped. Because it’s self-sustaining, negative thinking only grows stronger with each passing month, year, and decade. Can it be stopped?

Story
Being in a relationship without knowing how to share your feelings and receive your partner’s feelings in useful ways is like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim. You can flail around all you want, but it’s not going to keep you afloat for very long—you need to be able to move in any direction at will. Like swimming, knowing how to share your feelings and respond to your partner's feelings will move your relationship in the direction you want: toward more intimacy, closeness, connection, and trust.

Terrific book!
I would have preferred Nick as the narrator. My husband is more receptive to relationship messages from a man’s perspective which is why I purchased this book. Terrific message and oh so helpful though! Any chance you can re-record??

Short, concise and helpful introduction into understanding co-dependency.
I have listened to multiple longer more intricate books on co-dependency and thoroughly enjoyed this book. It distilled the complex issue of codependency in an incredibly helpful and simple way. It is not too long and I will be turning to it and listening to it again and recommending it.

Another favorite of Nic's
I love Nic's laid back way of explaining things. This book is easy to digest and really helped me understand my codependent behavior and work towards being interdependent. Must read!
