About this listen

As Jack prepares to celebrate his 13th birthday, strange things begin happening to him. With an adventure opening up before him, he learns that many of the things he believes are wrong as he discovers an entirely new world. With the help of his family, who aren’t all they appear to be, and new friends, Jack must find his way to save those who are counting on him. “Jack Crash” was born from the author’s desire to encourage reading by one of his own children. A reluctant reader at the time, she would quickly lose interest when she encountered a trough in a storyline. He began with a short story about “Jack Crash” and tested different writing styles and chapter lengths. After finding the sweet spot for length and complexity, the story started to unfold into a full-length book. Once the draft was complete, each chapter was designed to leave the young reader wanting closure of the events that just took place- mini-cliffhangers. The result was a young reader enthusiastic about experiencing the world of “Jack Crash” and excited about reading more. The ability to read multiple chapters in a short time fosters a sense of accomplishment on top of enjoyment. What began as a project to help his own child, turned into an opportunity to help other parents with their own reluctant readers. Although the structure of the book is specifically designed to capture the imagination of those who may not readily engage with novels, the content is suitable for all young readers.
