While Clint Harp is now known as Chip and Joanna Gaines’s go-to table maker on Fixer Upper and a nationally acclaimed artisan, his life has not always been the DIY dream we see on the show. Ten years ago, he played the role of what he thought was a good husband, father, and provider, dutifully working at a sales job that came with a healthy paycheck. Yet he kept coming back to his unfilled dream of building furniture. With the support of his wife, the encouragement of a mentor, and a life full of lessons, he finally took the leap, quit his job and set out on a quest to become a carpenter.

Story
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Story
You Can’t Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn’s idiosyncratic life. It’s about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very far—and whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder…or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country’s first Black president.

Great entertainment
What did you love best about It Takes Two?
Enjoyed hearing it narrated by the two brothers, Jonathan and Drew. Having their parents, brother JD and close friends speak was an extra bonus. All in their own voices---that is the best because you feel like they are in the room with you. I kept trying to picture who was who because I didn't have the hairstyles to distinguish them like on TV---subtle differences in their voices but no red or white ribbons to distinguish them like in their martial arts classes when they were little boys.
What did you like best about this story?
I watch the Property Brothers show and enjoy their personalities so it was fun to learn about their upbringing and how their parents molded and motivated their lives at an early age. These two have been involved in so many things beyond HGTV!!
Which scene was your favorite?
Really enjoyed that while one brother was telling about his life path, the other would interject the usual taunt or playfulness that you see on the TV show. It was very entertainig and not just a long talk by one and then the other. The back and forth really made it much better.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely----I listened to the book in two days and would love to have heard more. This made me appreciate their show even more knowing about the other things they are involved in and some of their core beliefs in life. Just the kind of people you want to share a coffee with or invite over to dinner.
Any additional comments?
This book could be put into several categories: entertainment, motivation, having a positive outlook and How to Succeed. I learned a lot of things about the family and Jonathan and Drew but most of all it was just a FUN listen and fast pace was wonderful. I usually buy some pretty serious books, always want to learn but this was pure enjoyment.

Nice guys, good parents, a fun read
I love the HDTV shows with Jonathan & Drew, so it's fun to hear about how they grew up, what they do when they're not filming, and some background stories during shoots.
There are also some little bits written by their parents, their older brother, their girlfriend/wife, read by the people themselves.
Their stories of childhood and young adulthood were great. It's refreshing (for me at least) to read about a NON-dysfunctional family! Lots of fun storytelling with their not-so-spontenious style, which works... after all, I love what I see on the shows, and it's a similar vibe. It's the Property Brothers, after all.
I recommend this book to all who love the Scott brothers' shows and want something encouraging and funny to read, in between other more serious and depressing books you may listen to on Audible. :)

Fun, upbeat, and happy
If you enjoy these two from Property Brothers, you will definitely enjoy learning more about them- their childhood growing up, their high school and college years, their many talents, and most of all, their love of family. One of my favorite parts in the book is when one of the brothers says that luck never played a role in their success- only desire, hard work, and a plan to achieve brought them to where they are today. It’s refreshing to hear. I hope they both live happily ever after.
