A number-one national best seller

Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

There's a definite mean streak running through this small New England city; underneath its ordinary surface awesome and terrifying forces are at work. The dying has been going on in Derry for a long, long time. Now Ralph is part of it...and lack of sleep is the least of his worries.

Returning to the same Maine town where It took place, a town that has haunted Stephen King for decades, Insomnia blends King's trademark bone-chilling realism with supernatural terror to create yet another masterpiece of suspense.

Critic reviews

"A yarn so packed with suspense, romance, literary reference, fascinating miscellaneous knowledge, and heart that only Stephen King could have written it. Marvelous - that is, full of marvels." ( Booklist)

I didn't care at all for the music throughout the book. The reader was okay but not great. I feel like the producer missed the mark, however don't let that detour you from a great book. It was worth the effort to get through the crazy production.

Great book! Bad performance!

I love audible and I love Stephen King stories, but the background music added in this one is downright painful, both figuratively and literally (especially in headphones). I want a story, not some editor’s version of what music matches the story. If I want that, I’ll watch a movie.

Kill the music

... I started out thinking “I could do with out the musical interludes.” And by the end I was at “I freakin hate them.”

Great narrator, but...

Although I enjoyed the book, the music that was played during the transitions was very loud and annoying. I skipped some parts in order to avoid it. I wish there had been a way to turn it off. It was distracting and completely unnecessary.

Annoying music

Mr. King didn't quite hit the mark for me on this one. It definitely could have been a lot shorter and been better. I noticed a lot of reviews mentioned not liking the narrator but I thought he did a good job and his voice was appropriate. it actually reminds me of Stephen Kings voice.

Someone thought it would be a good idea to add "creepy" music throughout. It sounds like some little kids pretending to play guitar and is overwhelmingly loud and obnoxious.

Terrible music.

love the book, but that out-of-place background music really ruined it for me. It's so loud that I have trouble hearing the narrator every time it comes up. And some time that obnoxious, piercing squeak came out of nowhere while I am focused on the story. Really ruins the flow of the narrative and the enjoyment

Great book but what is that background music

I loved everything except the music, it was a little strident. the story is excellent

one of my favorite books

Story is King. You either love it or hate it. There is only a little of King's fall into into full SJW in the writing at this point, so it's not too bad. The narrator did an amazing job. Unfortunately, loud music is blared into your ears between scenes and to highlight important parts of the story. The music drowns out the narrator at the worst of times, and is annoying at the best of times. Take whomever decided on this out back and shoot them. Seriously. It's that bad.

TERRIBLE interstitial music ruins performance

The story was good and the narration was excellent, but the random music sprinkled throughout was distracting and really took me out of the story.

Great story and narration

I enjoyed the story immensely. It was slow getting started but by midway it became quite interesting . I wept wrackingly at the end.

Eli Wallach did a wonderful job narrating all of the characters.

The music / sound effects / noise between each chapter / section was horrible and annoying on a nerve shattering level.

Great story
