About this listen

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. Now his nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of the house by the lake. Despite these dreams, or perhaps because of them, he decides to return to Sara Laughs, the Noonans' isolated summer home. In his beloved Yankee town, he finds himself falling in love with a widowed young mother, who struggles to keep custody of her 3-year-old daughter. He is also drawn into the mystery of Sara Laughs, now the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. Bag of Bones is my first Stephen King book, as well as my first Audible book, and I am thoroughly pleased with it. Stephen King's narration was fabulous, though clearly "unprofessional." It only took me a few minutes before the story pulled me in and I became accustomed to his narrative style. Unlike another book I've gotten, his inflection and tone were PERFECT, as you might expect from the author himself. His voice characterizations were not over-done and the music complemented the story perfectly. As for the story, it was truly great and memorable. I am not likely to ever forget this story. It is indeed a haunting, sometimes spooky, love story, and the ending is just as strong as the rest of the book. I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to anybody as a "first Audible book" and I would recommend it to anyone who is open to some spookiness in their fiction. I would recommend it to anybody except those who can't stand ANY violence in their books. There is a little, which is crucial to the story, but it is not overdone. All in all, FANTASTIC!!

First Audible and First King!!

...very very very very long and drawn out.
I've read The Stand numerous times, listened to The DreamCatcher(loved it), but I just can not bear this title.

This book seems to have been a short story, that needed to be lengthened in order to create a novel length and no more. There isn't a lot of plot, very few twists, way too much character development of details that do not play into the entire story and presented in a way that makes one think they would.

Very very very very very...

I am a fan of Stephen King and this book did not disappoint! It kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how the story would unfold. I always enjoy a book that keeps me guessing and "Bag of Bones" did just that. I also thought that Stephen did a great job on the narration! Classic Stephen King!

This is the best produced audio book I've every listened to. Stephen King's narration wonderful and the music is haunting. Listening to this one gives you something more than you could get just reading the book. It's also one of the scariest books I've read/listened to in a while. I dare you to listen to the last hour or two alone in the dark.

Spectacularly Scary

I was not a big fan of Stephen King's books before I listened to Bag of Bones. I couldn't stop listening! Stephen King does an awesome job of reading, even though he admits he is not a "trained actor." He really brings the book totally to life, and the interview at the end was soooooo interesting! His references to so many real life people, real books, and real authors just made the story so much more alive.

Wow!
