About this listen
Few of us are immune to the ideas we absorbed as children. We learned how to get approval or disapproval by creating the kinds of selves who would fit in and succeed with the "right" jobs, relationships, possessions, and so on. Even if we rebel against these ingrained notions by going in the opposite direction, we are still controlled by them. Either way, as adults we are often left feeling anxious or depressed because who we really are has been ignored.
Author Ira Israel, a uniquely multidisciplinary therapist, offers a powerful, step-by-step path to recognizing the ways we've worked to get our needs met and changing them with an approach that allows for understanding and accepting who we really are, the recognition of our true calling, and the path to the authentic love we were born deserving.

Have you ever wondered what separates people who think bigger from people who set their bars low? What makes one person accept low standards and another person constantly raise them? What drives a person who's optimizing every single aspect of her life, and what causes another person to maintain the status quo? I found this topic so fascinating, I decided to find out the answer for myself and write a book about it.

When children "push our buttons", we find ourselves reacting in ways that are far from our principles, often further inflaming a situation. When our children are at their worst, they need us to be at our best - or as close to it as we can be. Educator and family counselor Kim John Payne, author of Simplicity Parenting, offers techniques that simply and directly shift these damaging patterns in communication and parental behavior.

Insights into how our past shapes us and what to do about it
Lots of books say how childhood occurrences affect one’s life in adulthood. Few state why. Even fewer suggest what to do about it. I came across this book from reading Dr Margret Paul’s works (she wrote the forward). I was very pleasantly surprised.

Disappointing
Though it has a few interesting nuggets, a large part is a rant against US-style capitalism and civilizational alienation. That’s fine (and even quite interesting), but it has nothing to do with what the title promises. Often too esoteric, it lacks an editor (lots of repetition and lacks structure), and a more down to earth approach. I also disliked the author’s narration (often professional voice over artists do a far better job). Overall rather disappointed.

Not my cup of tea
I found the book to be not what I was expecting. To me, this book is repetitive and focuses on Buddhist principles, mindfulness, and being your authentic self. Not my cup of tea.

Missing the "How to Survive" Part!
The only chapter I enjoyed was the last chapter...
it gave several suggestions...
I think they missed a huge part of the book's appeal (when judging a book by its "cover") because most of us want the part where the author explains how to survive....
