About this listen

An enemies-to-friends-to-lovers lesbian romance about finding heart, hope, and second chances you never thought you'd have.

Stella Carter is a former criminal prosecutor and new widow facing down middle age alone in Los Angeles. Without being a prestigious lawyer and someone's wife, she's not sure who she is anymore or where her life is headed.

When she invites her niece to move in with her, Stella accidentally reconnects with her former colleague, LAPD Captain Elizabeth Murphy. The woman is beautiful but cold; someone she was always at odds with on the job.

Surprisingly, Stella finds herself leaning on her niece and Elizabeth more and more to navigate her loss. But as time goes on, Stella can't keep seeing Elizabeth and pretending she's not attracted to her. Besides, there's absolutely no way Elizabeth feels the same way. Is there?

Contains mature themes.

Honey in the Marrow is a heartwarming story.

The realistic, lovable women characters kept me riveted. I couldn’t stop listening to the narration. I especially enjoyed the multiple-generation aspect. Great summertime and bedtime listen.

Wonderful love story of mature women

The narrator did a great job of bringing the characters to life. The burn was slow, but worth the wait.

Pretty good

I liked it, however it's not one I'll read again. The first part kinda dragged on, Stella dealing with loss was the main focus. It was emotional yet depressing. The last half of the book got better, and a lot less frustratingly depressing.
Narration was EXCELLENT, Miss Watley did an excellent job. 👏

A book for us older women

I loved this book, it is well written, it deals with late bloomers, and over 50 YO, talks to me in so many aspects. Anastasia Watley is an excellent narrator and she really did an excellent job with this one…

Who knew a latent romance could be so lively and spicy?!

Like all good romances, angst is the price we pay while waiting for the fun part that occurs upon realization. There is another thing here though- resignation that leads to disassociation and depression- in the beginningof the book. The fear of what others might do to us is nothing compared to what we do to ourselves! In youth, this often manifest itself as suicide. Denying love and fulfillment, while meeting preset expectations, results in a loss of one’s own identity and it’s a slower form of the same thing. This is a HUGE truth that is rarely discussed but gets a full exploration by the author and narrator, both of whom did an excellent job! They did such a good job that I had to turn the speed up a tinge, in order to fully appreciate this book. IT IS WORTH IT! Their romance is so beautiful and complex, it’s like watching a rose grow and bloom, and THEN you find out that it’s a spicy knock out rose that blooms over and over again! These are such incredible characters and interesting people and there’s a fantastic young niece with role reversal in the parent dynamic and incredible media saavy, so ALL AGES can relate to and enjoy this story. Highly recommend!
