About this listen

Savannah Grace is a huge star in Nashville. At least, she was.

Her hit band Twice Struck topped the country music charts for almost a decade until her high-profile marriage to her bandmate and co-writer publicly exploded. Now she's fading from the spotlight and her own life, just trying to keep her head above water.

Brynn Marshall is a little lost. Dropping out of med school made her the black sheep of the family and now she's floating around LA trying to find a sense of purpose. When she falls down on her luck, her best friend—indie musician Noah Lyman—refuses to let her wallow. After all, he's just got his big break: co-writing with a megastar!

When Savannah enlists Noah to help her break out of country music and make a name for herself for once and for all, what better way to do it than to spend the Winter in her secluded vacation home in the woods of Vermont? And what better way for Noah to help out a friend than to pretend he's bringing along his wife?

After all, what could possibly go wrong?

Quinn Riley makes this a breathtaking romance where every emotion is felt deeply. This was a beautiful musical romance with song lyrics that cut deep. This is one of the best Star meets ‘commoner’ and falls deeply in love. I cannot wait for the next book. I am sure I will be listening to this one again and again.

Fantastic Slow Burn Romance!!

I liked the character development in this book. Also, mature (acting) lesbian characters- (vs some books that have on week meet up and UHaul)

This story is an emotional rollercoaster. Savannah is a recently divorced mother who is also a popular country singer. Brynn is living a life where the familial profession has been thrust upon her that she isn't ready for. Her best friend is given the opportunity to compose alongside Savannah so they plan to go as husband and wife so she could tag along and get some much needed relaxation and begin her studies in the medical profession again. Brynn is queer and she thought Savannah would be an uppity straight woman. She finds out this isn't the case, but it might have been too late for her.

The Last few chapters really suck you in. There were points I had to force myself to stop so I could be productive. Also, a big plus is that this is read by Quinn Riley. She is so freaking good at narrating.

Savannah is an iconic country singer and enlists the help of Brynn’s songwriter best friend, Noah. The trouble starts when Brynn poses as Noah’s wife. There is so much packed into this story, yet it doesn’t feel overdone. Savannah is a single mom with a troublesome ex-husband. Brynn is on a non-trajectory with her life after dropping out of medical school. To make herself useful, Brynn becomes a nanny to Savannah’s son, Tucker. Tucker is damn cute and Brynn just fell naturally into her care for him. This story unfolds and we deal with recovery from alcoholism, from depression, and trying to find one’s way. Ruby takes great care with Savannah and Brynn and I cried TOO much. When Ruby brings us the alcoholism, for example, she shows us both alcoholism in its recovery form AND in its sickness. She brings us depression and suicide but that HEALING you feel when you come on the other side of it.

And the single mom aspect - I'm not sure another story handles this quite the same way. Brynn just comes naturally to this role of getting to know Tucker. And we see this celebrity mom who prioritizes her child and she does it with such care and love and fun.

It’s possible that I am wrong, but I think this is Quinn Riley’s best performance yet. All of my favorite narrators, they ALL can do that hysteria thing. They can do anger. They can do deep sadness. They can do a longing and arousal. But my favorite part of her performance was during the concert at the end - the crowd engagement, the electric feeling, it was all so great. She brought this sort of "knife edge" feeling to it. The tempo and timber of all of it - PERFECTION. You could really feel her excitement. Also, she really made me HATE Cole. She brings the different agonies that we feel from Savannah and Brynn, and she does the CUTEST voice for Tucker.

Quinn Riley delivers another superb performance!
