About this listen
Felicity Carrol is interested in everything - except being a proper young matron of Victorian society. Brilliant and resourceful, Felicity took refuge in science and education after her mother died and her father abandoned her to servants. Now, all he wants is for her to marry into a family of status and money.
Felicity has other ambitions - but her plans shudder to a halt when her mentor is murdered at the British Museum and his priceless manuscript of King Arthur lore is stolen. Tapping into her photographic memory and the latest in the burgeoning field of forensic detection, Felicity launches an investigation. Handsome Scotland Yard Inspector Jackson Davies is also on the case and finds Felicity as meddlesome as she is intelligent. But when more nobles are murdered and their King Arthur relics stolen, Felicity must journey on her own into the dark underworld of antiquity theft, where she uncovers a motive far more nefarious than simple profit.
As the killer sets his sights on a new victim - a charismatic duke who has captured Felicity's imagination - the stakes rise to impossible heights.

Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there considerably, when young Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his government posting in Cairo, with his unconventional American wife - Kat Reilly. "A little Night murder": A young poacher is found shot dead in the woods of a grand estate near Mydworth. A sad accident it would seem.

Attention To Period Detail Makes This Book Ring True
While this type of period mystery is not to everyone’s taste ,.. it is true to the times and very entertaining.

Fun Whodunit!
This is a fun book that gives readers an intriguing and entertaining mystery to solve. I will be getting book 2 for sure - also on audible because I liked the performance so much. The storyline takes some interesting twists and turns and weaves in the legend of King Arthur and also offers historical tidbits about England. By the end I was totally in love with the character of Felicity Carroll, foibles and all!

Every young girl should read.
Patricia Marcantonio has written a book for every young girl to read, to show that no matter your station or gender, you can do what you set your mind on. You can over come the lack of love and affection of a parent.

A little too long; narrator has a lisp?
It's a nice story for the kind of story it is. It kind of drags at 3/4ths of the way through - the book is still trying to describe the protagonist and believe me, we get it. The narrator does a pretty good job except she's got some kind of speech impediment. It could serve as a kind of style but, if you're acquainted with ASMR videos you know, so many "mouth sounds" can be grating.
It all got to be too much and I didn't finish it.

No thanks
I try to cut some slack for the initial book in a series , but this one eventually became a slog. Main character was basically a Victorian superhero, too far over-the-top for me.
Editing... referring to "pants" rather than trousers, as well as "Queen Elizabeth ordered the execution of her half-sister (sic), Mary Queen of Scots."

Couldn't even finish
This was so bad I couldn't finish it. The plot was boring, with excessive use of similes and metaphors. The narration was terrible.
