About this listen

This boxed set contains the first 3 books in the CLEOPATRA FOX MYSTERIES series:

Murder at the Mayfair Hotel

Murder at the Piccadilly Playhouse

Murder in the Drawing Room

Description of Book 1: Murder at the Mayfair Hotel

It was the most fashionable place to stay in London, until murder made a reservation. Solve the puzzle in this new mystery from USA Today bestselling author of the Glass and Steele series.

December 1899. After the death of her beloved grandmother, Cleopatra Fox moves into the luxury hotel owned by her estranged uncle in the hopes of putting hardship and loneliness behind her. But the poisoning of a guest on Christmas eve throws her new life, and the hotel, into chaos.

Cleo quickly realizes no one can be trusted, not Scotland Yard and especially not the hotel’s charming assistant manager. With the New Year’s Eve ball approaching fast and the hotel’s reputation hanging by a thread, Cleo must find the killer before the ball, and the hotel itself, are ruined. But catching a murderer proves just as difficult as navigating the hotel’s hierarchy and the peculiarities of her family.

Can Cleo find the killer before the new century begins? Or will someone get away with murder?

Well developed characters and storyline. I enjoy the audio version. The narrator performs female and male voices so well.

real fun

I love the whit of the story and how it is performed. I normally don't like books from the 1900, but the performance and the way it is written made it worth the time spend. you will fall in love with the characters just as I did.

Each one just as entertaining as the last

Excellent narration and storytelling. Loved it!! Cleo’s uncle needs a good slap in the face. And somebody needs to cut her aunt off from her tonic. That woman’s doctor is a quack.

Good value. Good mysteries

First 3 books in series. It has likeable characters and takes place in an interesting time in history. The cross between wealth and working class is woven into the story as Cleo Fox investigates. The daughter of a disinherited heiress goes to live with her remaining living relatives at the Mayfair Hotel. She interacts with staff as she investigates. The characters are likeable and diverse. There is a hint at a future romance but nothing in the first 3 books. The books are clean historical cozy mysteries. The narration is good. Paced well. I typically listen to audio sped up around 1.25x.

Another fantastic series by C.J. Archer

I am so very glad that I didn’t give up on this series after the first book. Having read other series by the author that I adored, I was somewhat disappointed with the first book in this one. The story felt a little forced and far-fetched, and the main character was downright annoying / borderline unlikable at times. If you can stay with it past the first book, though, it is so worth it! The historical world-building and mysteries remain strong, the characters grow on you tremendously, and the romance pulls you in. On top of that, the narration is simply outstanding.
