About this listen
Filled with interstellar adventure, forbidden romance, and high-stakes survival, the Earth's Only Hope series will keep you on the edge of your seat. Can a band of prisioners become the saviors of humanity? And will love flourish in the face of extinction?
Dive into this post-apocalyptic space opera today and discover why Earth's only hope may lie in the most unexpected hands.
The Earth is freezing... ...and its salvation is left to a group of criminals, like me.
From Departing (Book 1) in the Earth's Only Hope series:
I thought dying in prison was my only option…until I was given a choice.
I can either board an alien spaceship with 400 fellow criminals or rot in prison on a freezing Earth. The spacecraft's captain, a handsome alien who looks remarkably human, has been visiting me in my dreams for over a year. He has given me the companionship I need during my time locked up in solitary confinement, and the way he holds me in my mind makes me forget the Earth is on the brink of extinction. But was that nothing but my imagination?
The alien in question doesn’t seem to know anything about the hours we spent together. Humanity will be wiped out soon, and despite all of this, if I get on that ship, I have a chance at surviving. And I’m a survivor. Only a deadly disease is spreading among the aliens and has already killed the majority of their population. It appears to be a virus, but as the aliens continue dying despite all precautions, I begin to wonder if the disease is something else. How do I keep the man I’ve fallen in love with safe? (Even if he has no idea who I am?) And if he dies, along with the rest of his alien race, how will us humans navigate the unfamiliar solar systems in a spaceship we don’t know how to operate?
But if the disease spreads to the humans on board, none of this will even matter.

Samantha “Reena” Barker is out of her element—WAY out. As the first (and only) human at an elite intergalactic university, Reena has somehow become an unofficial representative of the entire human race. No pressure, right? Navigating a campus full of aliens is hard enough, but add a grumpy, musically-challenged roommate to the mix, and things get seriously awkward. Thankfully, it’s not all bad. She’s got Panda, a quirky alien friend with an endearing love for humans. And then there’s the devastatingly handsome alien prince who might just have a crush on her. Too bad his ex-...

Worth a listen
Nice story. I enjoyed the evolution of the different characters.
Abrupt ending.
Virtual voice was okay. Kinda funny how one of the main character’s names was pronounced several different ways. Sometimes in the same sentence.

No inflections
I am hunk of you read the books yourself it may be an interesting series. But the voice reading this book is off. Like a happy cheery voice describing the hole in prison. Cheery voice describing attacking of the guard. The same for the description of a dying earth and aliens offering to take humans to their world. There is no inflection used for different situations. I just can’t listen anymore. I’m trying to change how it should be read in my head all the time.

there was nothing to like about this. virtual voice is the worse idea with audible.
I've been listening to stories from hear tor years.
it's helped me pass the time during my 15plus surgeries, my cancer treatments.
I luv to hear a Human voice give life to each character. virtual voice makes in hard to tell who is whom, made, female, old ,young, or with an accent. I really hope that this is not the direction audible is going, the only thing that will come from this is putting good voice actors out of jobs

the voice wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.
I listened for about an hour before I couldn't bare the main character anymore. Life has so many spoiled, entitled people. And I just couldn't listen to it anymore. That's what she is. She gave me a headache.
