Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Loved It!!!!!
I love Brian Barr and his writings! This first installment of his serial was absolutely wonderful to listen to! Listening to this story made me want to get my Forgotten Realms books out to reread them! This story is fantasy instead of SciFi but still Mr Barr's excellent storytelling. The narration was excellent! I love the way Jason Sprenger narrates. He has an easy cadence, excellent distinct character voices and sound effects. I know a few reviewers don't care for the sounds but I really enjoy the enhancement. All in all, a really enjoyable listen and I look forward to hearing the next installment to this serial. If you're a D'n'D or Forgotten Realms fan the you'll want to check this story out, you won't be disappointed.

old school radio drama fun
To me, this felt like one of the old Lone Ranger or Flash Gordon Serials. Lots of action and adventure that rolls the plot along so you don't ask really deep questions. It's there to be enjoyed and I did. The narration was great, the dialog was steady and the story kept moving. I was given a copy of this for an honest review and I honestly enjoyed it!

Cherubim of the Ultima Serialized, Volume 1
The author has created an intriguing fantasy world full of swords and magic in this story. In this first installment we meet Rand who seems to be the hero of the story. We are taken along for the ride as Rand meets others and continues to fight against Genesis. The characters and plot are engrossing and keep the listener interested throughout the installment. I enjoyed this introduction to this world and am eager to see just what happens next.

Science Fiction Combat
I'm not much of a science fiction fan. This book however had me consumed within the first couple of minutes of listening. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more the story or the narration. Jason Sprenger always does an amazing job narrating his books. The sound effects that he adds helps to bring the books to life. I highly recommend this book to all.

Wonderful Introduction to Cherubim of the Ultima
This initial installment to Cherubim of the Ultima passes the test for what I'm looking for in an audio book. Author Barr delivers another pleasing tale, which Narrator Sprenger delivers in a powerful performance. Kudos to the talent in each of these men.

Interesting premise held back a bit
I have to say overall I enjoyed the book as dramatic action fantasy, however the writing distracted me quite a bit throughout.
The author uses many names that are already familiar to anyone with passing knowledge of Dungeons and Dragons, Star Trek, and progressive pop bands. Poseidon and naga were fine, but with cherubim, Vulcan, and genesis, I was constantly thinking of things outside the story while listening to it. I would have gone in a more original direction for naming conventions. It was distracting.
The narrator gives a good read, varying the voice of the characters, and is suited to the subject matter.
Finally, I'm not really a fan of serializing novels. Even with the Green Mile from King, it was better and more convenient all together.
Don't get me wrong, it was still fun read. I'll probably check out the following chapters, especially if it was all brought together in one purchase.

Fun Fantasy Serial
This story brings to mind fantasy novels of people with swords and magic and grandiose goals meeting in brutal combat. in one word: fun. Sure there's some character building and backstory but you're listening for the combat and that is the best part. The author has started a rip roaring yarn I'd be glad to come along with.
Narration was good and didn't take anything away from the experience but aside from some cursory sound effects doesn't add too much.

The beginning of an addiction
First off let me just say that serialized stories aren’t for everyone. We live in a world and a generation that’s all about instant gratification. Having to wait for each installment can deter many. That being said, if you have the patience to wait this will be one to add to your wishlist and your cart. The story is not as refined as some of Barr’s other works yet there is a reason for this. It’s one of his earliest works that is only now being revealed and revitalized. If this is your first introduction to his work then take it with a grain of salt and realize that in these stories is the diamond in the rough. Find it and enjoy it. The characters are easy to grasp and the plot is quick and to the point . This first installment will hook you.
