About this listen
★★★★★ "I couldn’t put it down!” - Reader Review
___
A tortured woman, a drowning man, a frightened child.
When Detective Grace McKenna looks into a criminal’s eyes she can see haunting images of victims who have been wronged.
In Buried Secrets, when Grace responds to a routine call, she meets Miriam Caverly, an older woman with a past that is less than mundane. Alongside her boyfriend and ex-cop, Mark Connolly, Grace is thrown into a tangle of town secrets that force her to step outside the town’s boundaries for answers that she is scared to face.
A town drunk with a bitter past, a well-intentioned family strapped with the burden of a tragedy, and a lineup of memorable characters, make Buried Secrets an intense page-turner that follows The Gift in a perfectly aligned chain of events.
A must-read for fans of L.T. Ryan, Melinda Leigh, and Kendra Elliot!

Story
What happens when you open the door to the past? In book six of the McKenna Mystery series, Grace locks eyes with Toby Melville, Bridgeton business owner and handyman. It only takes a second to set Grace on the path to justice once again, when visions spin from Toby’s eyes. A stream of blood cascading down a bronzed man’s chin, creating a river that descends his neck and chest, before his body slips beneath a crush of white, foamy water. And then, a horizon of emerald green trees on a blue sky backdrop so beautiful it looks like a painting. With baby Ellie now in the picture, the stakes...

Would have been great w/o AI
The story was good. But it was painful listening to the AI "reader." Part of what I enjoy about listening to books is the different "voices" the human narrator gives the books. When listening to a human read the books it is almost like listening to a movie. When AI reads it, there is no feeling, no change in voice, the humanity of the book is completely lost.

The story was okay. It felt like the author just got tired of it at the end and ended it abruptly.
I won't listen to another book with virtual voice. It's like listening to a first grade teacher reading to her class.

AI voice is not enjoyable.
This storyline is great, but the AI voice was difficult to listen to. There is no change in tone from one character to the next, and no warning when there is a change in location or day at the end of a chapter.

Virtual Voice ruined the story
The virtual voice made this impossible to listen to. I feel for the author because I can’t imagine people getting very far through this. The story could’ve been good, but I could not listen to that virtual voice any longer. No changes in inflection words were pronounced incorrectly Very monotone.

Hard listen
I couldn't even finish listening to this book. No emotion, misread words. I will be more careful when choosing a book in the future to make sure it's not a virtual voice.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE!
Monotone, mispronounced words, etc.
I really don't know if the story is good. I can't tell if the characters are interesting, or if the plot was well developed. I was too distracted by the annoying 'narrator'. I gave up by the third chapter.
But, please, judge for yourself.

The robotic voice
The story seems good but I couldn’t get past the first chapter as the reading was so awful (AI). Mispronunciation, wrong inflections, and very robotic. Very, very distracting. So much so that I had to turn it off.
