About this listen
Bambi is the beloved story of a young deer’s childhood and coming of age in a forest with many dangers. Because deer are prey for humans, Bambi is taught from a young age about the dangers he will face and warned to always be cautious. He, and all of the other creatures in the forest, fear humans.
The novel skips through bits of Bambi’s life to show him growing up, falling in love, experiencing loss and heartbreak, and learning more about humans each time he encounters them. Each encounter frightens him and solidifies his fear of the power of humans, until he makes a discovery about the harm that humans inflict on one another. As he grows up, Bambi discovers the true nature of power and compassion and will come to understand his place in the balance of living creatures.
The story is a challenging exploration of the impact of humans on the natural world and creatures but has all of the charm of a coming-of-age novel. Bambi’s themes remain relevant and meaningful to audiences nearly a century after its original publication.

Story
The Original Bambi is an all-new translation of a literary classic that presents the story as it was meant to be told. For decades, readers' images of Bambi have been shaped by the 1942 Walt Disney film—an idealized look at a fawn who represents nature's innocence—which was based on a 1928 English translation of a novel by the Austrian Jewish writer Felix Salten. This masterful new translation gives contemporary readers/listeners a fresh perspective on this moving allegorical tale and provides important details about its creator.

Story
When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children's and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Cinderella" would become the most celebrated in the world. Yet few people today are familiar with the majority of tales from the two early volumes, since in the next four decades the Grimms would publish six other editions, each extensively revised in content and style.
