Rodney Benson is professor of media studies and sociology at New York University. He is the lead author of How Media Ownership Matters (Oxford, 2025; with Mattias Hessérus, Timothy Neff, and Julie Sedel). He is also the author of Shaping Immigration News: A French-American Comparison (Cambridge, 2014), winner of the 2020 Doris Graber best book of the decade award from the American Political Science Association (APSA), and the co-editor (with Erik Neveu) of Bourdieu and the Journalistic Field (Polity, 2005). His research on news media ownership, funding, and audiences has been profiled in The Atlantic, Axios, Semafor, NiemanLab, Columbia Journalism Review, Poynter, Le Monde, and elsewhere.
