Philipp Hanf was born in 1969 in Celle, the second of four children; he grew up in Hankensbüttel, in Lower Saxony, Germany. After his Abitur, or high school diploma, he went on to study dentistry in Heidelberg. Together with his wife, they carried on his father's practice for over twenty years. After being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS - aka LouGehrig's Disease), Mr. Hanf put an end to his active professional life, and began working on this book in 2021.
