Peter Spellman’s journey has been one of both sound and spirit. A lifelong spiritual explorer, he studied history and theology while preparing for the pastoral ministry, which deepened his appreciation for the ways music, culture, and spirituality intertwine. His passion for creative expression led him into music, first as a guitarist in various New York bands before switching to drums after seeing The Police perform in the late 1970s. Since then, he has performed and recorded with reggae outfit Mighty Charge, world music ensemble Friend Planet, and now with the Underwater Airport crew—a group known for its improvisational, transcendent soundscapes. Beyond performance, Peter has composed film scores for the National Science Foundation, created video game soundtracks for Massachusetts General Hospital, and spent 24 years coaching music entrepreneurs as Director of Career Development at Berklee College of Music. His current writing focuses on spiritual development and includes the recently published, Sacred Threads: A Nonsectarian Handbook for a Thriving Spiritual Life (2025, Heady Brew Media). Currently, Peter teaches career and business development courses as a faculty member at Berklee Online and continues his artistic journey as a drummer for Friend Planet and Underwater Airport. His work—both in music and in life—reflects his ongoing quest to bridge creativity, meaning, and the sacred rhythms that connect us all.
