Hi! I'm Josh, and I live in Phoenix and Mexico City with my wife Elisa, sons Lorenzo and Eduardo, and our three opinionated cats: Chiba, Flan and Quebin Esstib Mario Papucho. I also have two grown children, Mia, a nurse, and Ezra, a chef. My latest book is called "The Things That Hold: Stories We All Share." It's a verse-poetry book based on the moments that all people share, regardless of their race or age or politics or favorite flavor of ice cream or anything else. I wrote "The Things That Hold" with the lofty (you might prefer "naive," "insane" or "arrogant") goal of rallying us all together around something we can all agree on in a time where we're more divided than any time since the Civil War. The book is dedicated to my cousin Tim Malson, who passed away on Christmas Night of 2022. 25% of the profits go to the Night Stalker Association, a nonprofit that cares for the soldiers and families of the US Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment -- the "Night Stalkers." The Night Stalkers are an elite special forces group specializing in nighttime helicopter missions with no light and even less notice, at low altitude and high speed, and Timmy was one of them. I loved him a lot and man, do I ever wish he was still around. If I've managed to attract someone who's not a former classmate or a blood relative, here's a little more about me: I read a lot, between 200-300 books per year (audiobooks, and yes, that counts!). I've lived in Missouri, both Dakotas, Kansas, Florida, Boston, Phoenix and Mexico City. I own a search engine advertising agency called StraightForward Media that I founded in 2001, and I haven't had a "real" job since then, although it's always kept me stressed out and busy just like people who have a boss. I like learning foreign languages. I speak fluent (Mexican) Spanish, unless my Mexican wife is angry with me, in which I understand nothing (shrug). I also speak passable French, tolerable German, Italian and Portuguese, and somewhere between completely-useless and tolerable Japanese, Turkish and Russian. I also know an American sign language so antiquated that it actually makes deaf people angry when I use it, called SEE (Signing Exact English). Because of that, I don't use it much. Ask me anything at josh dot barsch at gmail, and I appreciate your support.
