For nearly 45 years, I have called the Bay Area home. Much of that time has been enriched by my role as a member of a semi-professional gospel choir. Through our music, I’ve been fortunate to tour extensively, performing in Australia, Israel, Canada, and parts of Europe, as well as countless venues across the United States. The transformative power of gospel music has been a cornerstone of my life, offering community, inspiration, and an opportunity to share messages of hope and resilience. Yet, this same music that brings me profound joy has also been a catalyst for deep reflection and spiritual questioning. As I sing the Living Word with conviction, I wrestle with the weight of doubt: Why is there so much pain and sorrow in the world if God exists? Why are some allowed to cause harm and suffering to others? How can I reconcile my faith with the reality of human suffering and my own uncertainties? Out of these reflections came An Adult Reading of Bible Stories, a personal and creative endeavor born of my desire to make sense of the life I am living and the world around me. This project is an effort to engage with scripture on a deeper level, not simply to find answers, but to explore meaning, seek understanding, and journey toward acceptance. Through writing and reflection, I aim to bridge the gap between doubt and faith, using my story to connect with others who may also grapple with these universal questions.
