Geletta, an avid reader, enjoys several genres of books, but her favorite books are thrillers. Some of her favored authors include Alex Michaelides, Edgar Allan Poe, Lucy Foley, Stephen King, and Barbara Freethy. Besides her love for reading, Geletta is a licensed mental health therapist who works at Integrative Counseling Center in Little Rock, AR. With 10 years of experience in the field, Geletta specializes in trauma therapy. At the counseling center, Geletta encourages her clients to find happiness through reading books and journaling their feelings. Alongside her colleagues, she helps clients process specific issues and explores how our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors affect our mood. Through this process, clients learn how to regain control of their lives and develop coping skills to navigate challenging situations. Grounding techniques are also taught to help clients respond effectively when faced with difficult circumstances. Geletta discovered her love for writing at a young age, around nine or ten years old. Writing became her sanctuary, an escape from the bullying she endured in elementary school because of her dark skin and “nappy” hair, as some of her peers would cruelly say. Throughout her childhood, Geletta yearned for a connection with her biological father. Fortunately, she was blessed with a bonus father who treated her as one of his own children. Even after her biological mother and bonus father divorced, he remained a constant source of love and support in Geletta’s life. To differentiate between her bonus father’s wife, who also treats her like a daughter, Geletta refers to her first mother as her “biological” mother. She considers herself incredibly fortunate to have her biological mother, her bonus mother, and her bonus father all present in her life. Unfortunately, Geletta never had the opportunity to meet her biological father. However, in 2022, she was able to connect with his family. Though her biological father had passed away, his family warmly embraced Geletta and made her feel like a part of the family. Geletta used to write stories about how her life would be if she was able to spend quality time with her biological father. She also wrote stories about being lighter skinned and pretty, or even being a beautiful brown princess. These stories were products of her young imagination. However, she now loves herself unconditionally, and understands the power of healing through writing. Although she never met her father, she keeps these stories as a connection to the love he had for her, and she had for him. As a young child, she recognized the therapeutic nature of writing. It was a wonderful escape from reality. As an adult, Geletta found solace in writing. Through her writing, she can interpret her experiences both as a child and as an adult, which helps her process her emotions and relieve stress. Recognizing the benefits of reading and writing for mental health, she has delved into various genres, with a particular fondness for thriller books. Inspired by her love for thrillers and to address her own personal stressors, Geletta decided to write her own thriller novel.
