About this listen

In this role-reversal version of Pride and Prejudice, Lady Diana Fitzwilliam, the tall, raven-haired daughter of the Earl of Matlock is also the mistress of Pemberley (which she inherits from the childless Darcys.)

Sensitive and intelligent, but socially awkward, Diana finds it hard to participate in society's events, often donning a mask of haughtiness and indifference. However, one day, she travels to Netherfield with her good friend, Sarah Bingley (and Sarah’s sister and brother, the Hursts) and there meets the second son of a local squire, Captain Peter Bennet of the Royal Navy. She inadvertently insults him at a local assembly and is immediately remorseful. Over time she begins to fall in love with him, but is unable to completely trust him after having once been duped by the fortune-hunter, George Wickham. In fact, after almost eloping with Wickham, Diana vows she will only marry a man who is her social equal.

This is the story of the beautiful Diana Fitzwilliam and the naval captain whom she loves. Will Diana open her heart again to a mere second son of a minor estate owner? Or will she spend the rest of her days, alone at Pemberley, having nothing but her memories to sustain her?
