What if it's True Podcast

By: Cameron Buckner
  • Summary

  • The What if its True Podcast features odd stories from ordinary people like you and me. Each episode will have one or more stories the writers claim are true. You can dismiss them as told by folks with great imaginations. You might even call them liars. Most people do. If you're like me though, there is always that nagging question you ask, but can't get an answer to. That question: What if it's True?

Southern Fiction: Shane Brown & Michael Farris Smith

Michael Farris Smith and Shane Brown write what they know. Both could be described as writers of Southern Noir.

Smith has had a successful career writing novels, screenplays, and short stories. He is also a musician and leads the local Oxford band, Michael Farris Smith and the Smokes. Their latest release is called Lostville. You can see the film, Chasing Rabbits, on Tubi, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.

Shane Brown is the son of acclaimed author Larry Brown. He is following in his father's footsteps in writing in a similar voice. He has recently landed a publishing deal and his first book will be out soon. Both authors are located in Oxford, a gathering point for creative types. Must be something in the air.

Southern noir is a gritty, atmospheric subgenre of fiction that merges the dark, cynical tone of classic noir with the distinct cultural and historical backdrop of the American South. Set in humid, decaying towns or sprawling urban underbellies, it features flawed protagonists—often detectives, drifters, or outcasts—navigating a world of corruption, violence, and moral ambiguity. Infused with Southern Gothic elements, such as grotesque characters and oppressive settings, Southern noir explores themes of racial tension, class struggle, and the lingering weight of history, all wrapped in a sultry, fatalistic vibe. Authors like James Lee Burke and Daniel Woodrell craft taut, evocative tales that pulse with the South’s unique blend of beauty and brutality.

    Bigfoot Destroys Heavy Equipment

Bill, a forest ranger student and Timber Cruiser in Eureka, California, worked alone on weekends marking redwood trees for logging. One Monday, he and the logging crew arrived at their forest landing—a cleared area for storing equipment and fuel—to find an astonishing scene: three 55-gallon fuel drums had been thrown down a hill, a locked tool shed was overturned, and, most unbelievably, three 54-ton D-9 Caterpillar tractors had been flipped onto their sides. The crew was baffled by the immense strength required for such feats, and no explanation for the mysterious incident was ever found.

BIGFOOT brought me here.

My interest in Bigfoot brought me to Cam. It has been a pleasure watching his YT channel grow. He just wants to read stories. Who knew that desire would evolve into all this. Thank you, Cam.

Sometimes I have to ask what if that story is true

I have enjoyed this podcast and the stories submitted and read on the podcast. Stories that have the ring of truth that make me wonder, some that raise skepticism, and some stories that loudly activated the B.S. buzzer.
A few of my submissions have been read. However the last one read will be my last submission. While editing punctuation to make a story easily read or for a better flow, or ease of being understood. However edits that significantly change the submission by omitting or changing details as done on the last of my submissions is not acceptable. It takes a lot of trust to submit something that has meaning to the person that trusted you to read it. Changing the story is a breach of this trust.

Grab your ice tea and settle in for an adventure.

I was blessed enough to stumble upon Cameron and heavens sakes I have been entertained for many hours.
( The tv and radio are off and a big cold glass of southern tea are almost a compulsory requirement when I click on your podcast.) Listening to Cams unique delivery of honest person to person story telling,I imagine myself sitting around a warm fire on a crispy fall evening listening to Cam spin a wonderful tail where all the day to day stresses melt away. True entertainment. Thank u Cameron Buckner and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Love, Love,Love What it's True podcast ❤️ ❤️❤️

I am disabled and spend most of my days alone and Im k with that . I started listening to Cam when he first started out the Dixie Cryptid Podcast on YouTube. I absolutely love his southern accent and his good ole boy, down home ways. His voice is comforting and his genuine caring attitude towards all is heartwarming. I look forward to waking up and grabbing my first cup of coffee in the morning and listening to Cam. It doesn't matter how many times I have already listened to a particular episode , I enjoy it all over again and usually catch something I missed the first or second time . Please keep the stories coming Cam . Sincerely Dena Kinney .

Hey Cameron! Happy happy to see more stories. I noticed you must be getting some grief from someone about making comments on the stories you read. Please don’t change a thing. Love to hear your responses. You have a great sense of humor and your light hearted nature is refreshing!! Keep up the good work! Thanks for your time!
