WINE TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK

What the hell is a GSM Blend, so what are the 3 grapes included, and most importanly...why? Where does this blend come from?

    Is it:

    1. Graciano, Sangiovese, and Mataro - the core blend of Chianti
    2. Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre - the core blend of the Rhone
    3. Gruner Veltliner, Sylvanner, and Müller-Thurgau - the great whites of Austria
    4. Gamay, Semillion, and Merlot - an affordable Vin de France country blend.

To answer this question AND find out the answer, head over to our Substack - VintertainmentStudios.com, find this post on the Marshmallow movie, and cast your vote in the poll, then scroll to the bottom to see if you got it right!

One of the $trange$t comics ever published by Wildstorm Studios, Automatic Kafka ran a mere 9 issues but is nevertheless a series worth revisiting in 2025.

Paired with the tension between different grapes blended together, and adultified versions of childish wines.

Kick DC/Wildstorm to put out a trade paperback collection of it!

Author JOE CASEY himself wrote a 2-part history of the series + a retrospective on the extra-wild 4th issue:

  • VINTERVIEW: Director Matt Battaglia Talks Georgian Wine Doc THE RED LINE

Watch THE RED LINE Documentary HERE.

We’ve been following Matt Battaglia on Substack for a couple of years now, but in his role as a comic creator. (And for those just joining us or with short memories, once upon a time we were “Wine and Comics”, a publication and YouTube show dedicated to precisely that, before expanding out into all types of entertainment/media.)

I purchased Matt’s first full graphic novel as a one man show writer/artist, HOUSE ON FIRE and absolutely adored it.

But wildly, his comics aren’t why we’re featuring Matt on the podcast today! Instead, he reached out via DM to let me know that he had just completed directing a short 20+ minute documentary on Georgian winery "Papari Valley” run by Ketevan “Keti” Gurabanidze, Shalva “Nukri” Kurdadze, and their son Sandro.

If you're in the States, distributor BLACK LAMB carries Papari Valley wines, and can be purchased here.

  • VINTERFICATION: Script vs. Screen - SIX FEET UNDER Pilot Episode
    May 15 2025

Send us a message and we always repsond!

Welcome to out first “Vinterfication” episode!

Vin-I-fication is what a winemaker does - all the decisions he or she makes - to transform grapes, the raw materials, into a final wine.

And so Vin-TER-fication is when we compare the raw materials of a work of entertanment - the script of a tv episode, movie, or comic - and compare it to the final produced thing.

Today we tackle one of the TV shows that helped launch America’s “Golden Age” of television - SIX FEET UNDER. And tell you what to pair with each, whether you're reading the script, or watching the aired episode.

The Wines mentioned in this episode (more information can be found on our Substack VintertainmentStudios.com)

2007 Bodegas Navalon Anciano 'Aged 10 Years' Gran Reserva Tempranillo

Bodega Dehesa de los Canonigos Clarete Luzianilla, Ribera del Duero, Spain 2021
