It's like a literature circle for Harry Potter

I've been listening to the podcast since the beginning and find it brilliant. I love your guys' casual style while still having a very thoughtful and in-depth discussion of the books that I as a teacher can't help but love. You have become part of my Sunday tradition as I do dishes and fold laundry while I think more deeply about meanings and twists in the book.

I would like to get your thoughts on something that has been a bee in my bonnet for the better part of a year now. Harry's invisibility cloak is such a beloved item. In the story behind it, however, it so often gets touted as "the good gift". I realize in the 7th book the golden trio differs on what gift from Death they think was best, but it is implied, by the books and the story of the Deathly Hallows within the books, that the invisibility cloak and its intended purpose is certainly on a pedestal while the other gifts cause nothing but trouble.

Is there anything about this cloak that truly makes it the morally superior Hallow? Could the other Hallows have been used for good as well and entirely avoided trouble?

Theory

Wow! incredible podcast I love listening to it! I was re listening to the books and had a thought. When Harry puts on the invisibility cloak and then leaves Griffindor tower, the fat lady just sees herself being opened, but no one there. She must be super confused about why this is happening. The part I realized though was that this would have also happened while James, Sirius, Lupin, and Peter where at school. I love to think that this was such a weird thing that kept happening to her but stopped when the mauraders left Hogwarts. But then when Harry came to school it started again and I can see her panicking and thinking, "oh no! its happening again!"

chamber of secrets thoughts

love this podcast! enjoying listening to the book each week then followed up with you guys! can't believe we are on to book 2 already!
so my thought on Hermione wanting to brew the poly juice potion; I think she wants to do it because it's a challenging potion and she always wants to know everything and be good at everything. what better way to challenge herself than to do one of the hardest potions! haha I can almost hear her excitement in the challenge.
