  • Fungal Foundations: King Stropharia’s Gift – 3663
    Apr 30 2025
Today we’re diving into the underground world of fungi with Olga from Mushroom Mountain. She grew up foraging mushrooms in the forests of Bosnia and Hercegovina, learning from her grandparents which ones to eat, which to toss, and how to live with the land instead of just on it. These days, she runs Mushroom Mountain, a powerhouse operation producing spawn for edible and medicinal varieties, plus mushroom extracts and honeys under the Mycomatrix label. But that’s just scratching the surface. Olga also leads a wild mushroom food safety certification program that’s FDA-endorsed and accepted by seven states so far. She’s … Continue reading →

  • Edible Ops: Behind Enemy Lines – Epi-3662
    Apr 29 2025
Last week I was at the LFTN 25 Workshop put on by my good friend Nicole Sauce. While there, one of the fellow presenters was talking about applying permaculture in suburban settings. She had done an amazing job transforming her backyard into a productive, beautiful space. But when it came to the front yard? That’s where the “Karens” and the HOA enforcers drew the line. Nicole pointed out to me, “You haven’t covered that in a while.” She’s right, it’s time to revisit how to stick it to the rule-makers while still playing the game better than they do. Today, … Continue reading →

  • Why 21 Capital Changes Everything – 3661
    Apr 28 2025
Today we discuss the launch of 21 Capital, something everyone’s talking about, but no one’s actually explaining. The headlines are full of noise, but the real story is deeper and way bigger than most people realize. We’ll break down what’s really going on behind the scenes: why Cantor Fitzgerald, Tether, SoftBank, and Jack Mallers are teaming up, what 21 Capital’s true business model is likely to be, and how it could completely reshape Bitcoin’s role in finance. No hype, no clickbait, and no half-baked opinions just well-formed, logical answers based on facts, connections, and the real incentives driving this move. … Continue reading →

So Practical, You'll Forget it's About "Survival"

It's not an exaggeration when the show's description says "if times get tough, or even if they don't." Host Jack Spirko doesn't have to talk about the end of the world to teach you about things that will actually make a difference in a crisis. Things like getting in better physical shape, building real relationships with your neighbors, planting a garden, or getting out of debt and starting a savings account will all improve your life today.

Jack's brand of common sense, no excuses tough love may even be more difficult for some self-proclaimed preppers than for "regular people." He's quick to point out consumerist habits that make us feel good, but don't actually help.

The show now has a panel of experts, interesting interviews, and great production value. It's improved so much over the past 13 years, starting when Jack recorded the show in his car on his way to the corporate job he had at the time.

That's right, 13 years! I think it's called The Survival Podcast because it pre-dates the term "prepper." It has certainly matured over time, and I highly recommend it. I can think of very few people I'd rather have on my side in an actual crisis, natural or man-made... or on a random Tuesday.

“Build it and they will come”

Jack truly cares and has built a community of like minded individuals that are dedicated to improving their quality of life. Survival is just a byproduct of living the best most productive life you can every day and The Survival Podcast is the embodiment of this philosophy.
