  • Exploring Feminist Philosophy: History of Philosophy with Peter West
    Jul 7 2025

In this episode of Lockean Diaries, hosts Cass and Alex are joined by Peter West, a historian of philosophy with a keen interest in feminist philosophy. Peter shares insights into the history of philosophy through a feminist lens, shedding light on influential yet often overlooked female philosophers. In particular, we highlighted the works of Susan Stebbing, applying her ideas to modern politics and social ideas. We also discussed how we can continue to challenge the 'canon' of philosophy to destroy the 'man with a beard' philosopher stereotype! Thanks for watching!

  • Humour in the Age of Brainrot: Philosophy of Humour with Alex Carter
    Feb 3 2025

DISCLAIMER: Video contains discussion of offensive humour. In this episode of The Lockean Diaries, we explore the nature of humour and its impact on society through philosophical understanding of laughter, examining theories like incongruity and how they shape our understanding of what makes us laugh. We'll trace the historical evolution of humour, from its roots to its role in modern society, including the newly emerging phenomenon of brainrot and the viral sensation of Skibidi Toilet, and the future-predicting episodes of the Simpsons. Our discussion will highlight the powerful intersection of satire and politics, while tackling the implications of censorship on comedy and inclusivity in humour. Whether you're a comedy enthusiast or simply curious about the deeper meanings behind laughter, this episode offers a rich exploration of why humour matters in our lives. Thank you to Alex (squared) for joining us in this discussion! And sorry to Cass who's face didn't quite make the cut (although, you've got to admit that's rather funny...)
