Cancer Season Continued: Borders, Belonging & Broken Systems: The Unspoken Reasons for Immigration.

As we move through Cancer season, we hold our attention on the politics of home, country and family through the topic of immigration. In this episode, I talk with immigration lawyer Diana Moller to examine history, reasons for immigrating, economics, labor, and the abomination of for-profit detention centers. I weave in the Cancer archetype and in particular note the axis it shares with Capricorn.

  • Cancer Cont. Conversation w/ Immigration Lawyer Lisa Seifert: Types of documentation, Civil Offense, I.C.E., Sanctuary City. -The USA is a Cancer!
    Jul 3 2025

This week’s episode continues our exploration of Cancer season themes—home, belonging, and care—through the lens of immigration.
I speak with immigration lawyer Lisa Seifert to discuss the many facets of immigration in the U.S. We talk about the different types of legal documentation, what it means that being undocumented is a civil—not criminal—offense, how communities can hold ICE accountable, and recent headlines. We also explore how immigrants contribute billions in taxes and the significance of sanctuary cities in offering protection and support.

As we approach the 4th of July—a day that marks the birth of the United States and also highlights that this country is astrologically a Cancer—I invite you to reflect deeply.

Unless you are Native American, your family came from somewhere else. We are a nation of immigrants.
This holiday is an opportunity to ask:
    What does patriotism truly mean?
    Who makes up this country?
    What are we really celebrating?
What are the stories—of migration, displacement, and survival—that brought us here?

And crucially, what are the ongoing consequences of colonization, especially for Native peoples, whose lands were taken to form what we now call the United States?

  • Cancer Cont: Womb Revolution: Marissa Bolaños on parenting, capitalism, individualism, shame & labor
    Jun 26 2025

In today’s episode I speak with birth worker, parenting coach, doula and writer, Marissa Bolaños of Womb Revolution. We continue to explore Cancer themes through an examination of the experience of birthing parents, parenthood, post-partum and the impact of capitalism and individualism on these experiences. Marissa normalizes the less glamorous experiences of parenthood: the rage, anxiety, inequalities, loneliness, and feeling trapped. We discuss a couple of quotes from her article, This is How Patriarchy Weaponizes Gentle Parenting and Leaves Moms Behind. (linked below)

    • “I believe parenting is a unique opportunity to heal ourselves, dismantle systems of oppression and change the world.”
    • “Nobody tells us how triggering parenting can be, how many of our own wounds resurface while we witness our kids big feels and big needs.”

Marissa's insights are powerful, helpful, reassuring, and even offer practical steps towards shifting outdated patterns and models of parenting. I hope you all enjoy!

  • Cancer Season 2025: Immigration, Generational Trauma, Feminism, Goddess Ganga + Deep Ocean Visualization
    Jun 19 2025

In this deeply reflective episode, we explore the archetype of Cancer through both an astrological and political lens. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer is tied to home, care, emotion, and memory — but in today’s world, these themes extend far beyond the personal. We unpack how the Cancerian archetype shows up in conversations around immigration, labor, mothering, and global injustice. From the trauma of colonization to the emotional labor of caregiving, this episode is a call to remember that feeling is not weakness — it is power. And it’s time to let that power move us.

    Key Themes We Explore:

    • The Cancer archetype: home, memory, mothering, and emotional labor

    • Feminism and the undervaluing of caregiving work

    • Immigration, ICE, and the politics of displacement

    • Ancestral trauma, epigenetics, and embodied memory

    • The global economy’s reliance on invisible labor

    Yoga and Vedic Story

Yoga poses: supported fish (salamba matsyasana), bridge pose (setu bandha sarvangasana), bow pose (dhanurasana), locust pose (salambasana) belly down corpse pose (savasana)

Yoga style: slow flow + restorative postures- think slowing down, nourishing, soothing, healing

    Meditation: deep ocean visualization

Pranayama: empty bowl meditative breath (belly breathing)

  • Gemini Cont. w/ interview with two Professors from TESC Shaw Osha & Hugo Flores on Language, Art, Critical Thinking, and the Silent Way
    May 29 2025

Today, we’re continuing our exploration of Gemini by bringing in its opposite on the zodiac axis—Sagittarius, the philosopher and professor—through a conversation with two of my favorite people: Professors Shaw Osha and Hugo Flores from The Evergreen State College. Both are brilliant thinkers, artists/ musicians, and bilingual speakers. Shaw teaches visual art, and Hugo teaches and leads the Spanish department.

In our conversation, we explored approaches to critical thinking that challenge our tendency toward immediate analysis, interpretation, and repetition. Shaw and Hugo both use teaching methods that encourage students to slow down and sit with what’s right in front of them—resisting the urge for quick conclusions or easy answers.

Their insights reminded me of the mythological characters we explored last week—Hermes and Narada—both known for challenging assumptions and disrupting habitual ways of thinking and noticing where our thinking has become automatic or overly simplistic. In a culture that values speed and certainty, it seems all too easy for our critical thinking muscles to weaken, but if we can allow for some discomfort the learning and growth potential is great!
