THE VICTIM/CONTROLLER CYCLE: finding freedom through observation.

  • Summary

  • In this chapter, we explore a psychological dynamic where the roles of victim, controller, and the one who desires to escape perpetuate an illusion of separation and powerlessness. The key to liberation lies in the figure of the Observer, who initially feels powerless but discovers that these roles are projections of their own mind.

This perspective aligns with non-dual philosophies such as Advaita Vedanta and psychological concepts like Jung's shadow. The root of the problem lies in identifying with these mental roles, while liberation arises from recognizing oneself as the creator of this "play" and ceasing to identify with its characters. The desire to change within this structure paradoxically reinforces the prison, as it emanates from the belief that power resides outside oneself. True transformation occurs by assuming the role of the conscious observer who does not engage in the polarity of the roles.
