How many times are we expected to forgive? Seven times? That seems very generous. Peter thought so, too! This week we are looking at Jesus' parable about the unforgiving servant. Not only was Jesus' teaching not what Peter expected, but it is often uncomfortable for us as well. How does it work? What about consequences? Come this Sunday as we look into Jesus' teaching about life and forgiveness in the Kingdom of God.

This week as we continue looking at Parables, we’re looking at the “Laborers in the Vineyard” as captured by Matthew (Matthew 20:1-16). Every parable tells us something about who God is as well as something about ourselves, so what does Jesus want us to understand by talking about hard work and earning our pay?

So far in Micah, God has tasked him with challenging God’s people to understand how they have turned their backs on God’s offer to love and protect them. And as he reminds them, there will be pain before they can understand this joyful relief (Micah 5:1-5a). What is the joyful relief? In Micah 5:2, he points to Jesus – the one to come who will save them from themselves.

In Micah 4:9-13, we see God's people challenged to look past the immediate pain and understand that it is for their good. Let’s be honest, no one really wants to hear that they are going to suffer.
