About this listen
Morning news update of U.S. news and world news for July 7th, 2025. We have five U.S. news stories and two world news stories. These are quick news updates.
Transcript:
Number one, Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice have released a memo saying there was no evidence that the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, kept a client list or was murdered. It wasn't long ago that Elon Musk tweeted that the alleged files hadn't been released because Trump was featured in them. And in February, Pam Bondi told Fox News that the list was sitting on her desk for review. And it also wasn't long ago that a bunch of popular right wing people were brought into the white House to receive the first list. But now there's no list.
Number two, there have been more measles cases in the US this year than any other year since the disease was declared eliminated a quarter century ago. Why is this? Well, West Texas is a big reason an unvaccinated pocket of West Texas is definitely contributing to the numbers. There have been at least 177 confirmed cases in the US in 2025 so far. The previous record in 2019 was a total of 1274 cases. Three people have died this year from measles, two children in Texas and one adult in New Mexico.
Number three. The updated numbers of the Texas flood are at least 82 deaths, and at least 41 are still missing at the time of this recording.
Number four, we are fast approaching Trump's latest tariff deadline, which is July 9th. The tariffs go into effect on August 1st and countries are facing a rate from 10 to 70%. Trump said yesterday on the tarmac that they are sending letters to some of our trading partners this week to move things along faster.
Number five, Trump is hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today at the white House. This will be the third time in six months. The question is, will the cease fire happen from this meeting? Now, let's move on to World News
Number one. One on Sunday, the Houthis in Yemen attacked a ship in the Red sea, which was the first attack in months. The attack was done by multiple small boats. In the past, the Houthis were attacking Israeli connected ships. In response, the Israeli military launched airstrikes hitting Houthi held ports on a cargo ship.
Moving on to Gaza. The Palestinian Health Ministry says at least 105 bodies and 356 wounded people were brought to hospitals across Gaza over the last 24 hours. All right. That's it for this morning. Have a great day.
