Medschool2.0

  • Summary

  • Welcome to the "medschool2.0" podcast, where we share stories of resilience, determination, and the power of never giving up. I’m your host, Jyoti Bhattarai, a physician who took a bold leap and returned to medical school after a few years in the field. Going through medical school once was a challenge, but doing it a second time is a whole different journey filled with its own sparkles and lessons.

This podcast is not just about medicine—it's about the struggles, triumphs, and experiences we all face on the path to our dreams. Every episode, I’ll bring you inspiring stories from medical students, professionals, and people who’ve taken the road less traveled, all fighting for their goals and overcoming obstacles along the way.

We’ll dive deep into their struggles, their victories, and how they continue to move forward with courage, hope, and positivity. My goal is to uplift and inspire anyone feeling uncertain or stuck, and hopefully spread a little happiness and a lot of motivation to keep going.

So, whether you’re in the same boat or know someone who is, this podcast is for you. Let’s embark on this journey together and help each other rise to glory! Tune in each month for stories that will keep you going.

    THIS IS RE RUN EPISODE

Here at medschool 2.0 we tend to bring guests that are expert in their fields and also help put a fresh perspective in our minds. We can call ourselves lucky enough to have Dr. Sheldon Yao, Professor and Chair OMM Department at NYITCOM come to our podcast.
Dr. Yao received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in 2002. He completed his internship and family practice residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, N.Y., and afterwards completed a one-year fellowship in neuromuscular medicine-osteopathic manipulative medicine (NMM/OMM) at North Shore-LIJ Plainview Hospital (N.Y.). He is dual-board certified in family medicine/osteopathic manipulative treatment and NMM/OMM.

He has accomplished so much in such a short period of time that we are amazed by his passion and work ethics towards the betterment of medicine and DOs in general . We are forever in his debt and will be always thankful for him for doing an episode in such a short notice and in his busy schedule.

We learnt a lot during the episode and we hope fellow students be it DOs or MDs and even pre meds can get some more insight into the world of ever changing field of medicine.

Please do share your views and thoughts about the episode.

It's that time of year again — Match Week is upon us, and we know it's a nerve-wracking experience for all the MS4s out there. Although we had intended to release this episode a little earlier, we felt it was important to share it now, right before Match Day. In this episode, we were honored to have Dr. Daniel Veyg and Dr. David Shukhman from MatchPal join us to discuss the VSLO, Match, and SOAP processes.

At MedSchool2.0, we want to send our best wishes and full support to all MS4s and IMGs gearing up for the upcoming match. However, in the unfortunate event that anyone receives that dreaded email on Monday morning, March 17, 2025, we're here with some valuable insights and advice to help you through it. If even one person walks away from this episode with a piece of advice that can help them, we will have done our job.

A huge thank you to the MatchPal team for taking the time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge with us. To those who match, congratulations! And to those who may receive that difficult email, please don’t give up. Lean on your support system — your journey doesn’t end here. Keep pushing forward. We know it’s easier said than done, but please, never lose hope. Good luck to all!

From the dark ages of stigma to the semi-color state we’re in today—this episode dives deep into the realities of being LGBTQIA+ in medical school and beyond. 🏳️‍🌈📚

We had the privilege of hosting Jeri Ann (MS4, she/they), Marvill Woo (MS3, they/them), Vineet (MS3, he/him), and Matt Walsh (MS3, he/him) to discuss everything from PrEP stigma to how we can uplift and support the next generation of LGBTQIA+ medical professionals.

We even got into the lighter side—what music and shows bring comfort after long study sessions! 🎶📺

Lastly, we are very thankful and appreciative of all the esteemed guests that took time off from their very busy schedules and sat down with us and talked about their creative process.

Please do share your views and thoughts about the episode.
