Despite two rain delays, The New York Mets got an excellent start from Clay Holmes and enough offense courtesy of a Francisco Alvarez 2-run home run to defeat the Washington Nationals, 2-0.

Considering the circumstances, it may have been Clay Holmes best start of the season. 5 scoreless innings that saw Holmes get the Nationals to POUND the ball into the ground. It was a so-so day at the plate for the Mets offense, but Alvarez's 2-run HR was all the offense that they needed.

The New York Mets were able to rally in the 8th, but the bullpen wasn't able to hold a one-run lead and they fell to the Washington Nationals, 5-4.

It was a quiet night for the Mets bats early in this one, as they were unable to solve Jake Irvin over his 7 plus innings. They did, however, get to the Nats bullpen in the 8th to push in front but weren't able to get the final three outs.
