Saturday was Erin Blanchfield’s coming-out party with a monster victory over Jessica Andrade, vaulting the 23-year-old wunderkind into the UFC’s elite at 125 pounds. Since she sure looks like the future of women’s flyweight, Scott and Brian decided to put their heads together and sort out which names figure to create or grow their respective legacies in MMA over the next few years. Football wasn’t the only one with a Super sports event this past weekend. Scott and Brian have a ton of thoughts in the wake of Islam Makhachev’s title defense that denied Alexander Volkanovski a second championship belt. Whole lot to pack into this week’s chat, from the usual fights and games to Batman and Superman.

At least Brian and Scott are making headway in their recent dips into the classic N64 back catalog, so they’ve got that going for them … which is nice. On the actual fight side, the past weekend’s UFC/Bellator slate kept the hosts busy, even as one of them was under the weather. But his health is trending upward entering a major, major title fight at UFC 284 this weekend. But is it worth Brian forking over a bunch of Jacksons for the whole event, or could this be the week he checks out other means of watching away from home?

The UFC got its light heavyweight champion (finally), and the Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo tetralogy (or quadrilogy, or whatever) finally is settled. And Brian was too busy partying to catch it, so it’s up to Scott to fill in what happened at UFC 283.

That news played second fiddle to the actual return of UFC action Saturday, with some relatively solid Fight Night action a week ahead of the year’s first pay-per-view event. No sugarcoating it: The first week of 2023 was just awful if you’re both a decent person and an MMA fan. From Dana White caught on video slapping his wife — with apparent impunity — to an alleged murder by a UFC veteran and the premature death of a promising young fighter, Scott and Brian are having a tough time getting excited for the fights to come when UFC returns this weekend.
