On this episode of Kindness With Amy, I speak to Gauri Maulekhi, who is an Indian animal rights activist and environmentalist known for her work in advocating for stronger animal protection laws in India. She is a Trustee at People For Animals India (PFA), one of India’s largest animal welfare organizations, and a key figure in driving legal and policy reforms for animal rights.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

𝗕𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲: She played a crucial role in securing a Supreme Court ruling against the illegal transportation and slaughter of animals during religious festivals, particularly in Uttarakhand and other northern states.

𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲: She has worked extensively to improve regulations surrounding the treatment of animals in slaughterhouses, live markets, and transport.

𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆: She has been instrumental in influencing government policies on animal welfare, including stricter enforcement of laws related to the protection of animals in captivity, factory farming, and testing.

She has been recognized for her fearless activism, often taking legal routes to push for systemic change.
