「硝子戸の中」は、早稲田の漱石山房の硝子戸の書斎に坐して、思い浮かぶあれこれを綴った滋味溢れる漱石最晩年の小品集。『硝子戸の中』は、胃潰瘍の悪化で死去する前年の、48歳最晩年の作品である。早稲田の漱石山房の硝子戸の書斎に坐して、思い浮かぶあれこれを綴った滋味溢れる小品集。雑誌用の写真撮影のこと、愛犬ヘクトーのこと、絵の賛辞を求める厚かましい人のこと、「ある程の菊投げ入れよ棺の中」の句を手向けた女性のことなどをユーモラスに書き、最後には、兄や母についてしみじみと回想している(全39篇)。
