About this listen

From Pamela Redmond Satran, the acclaimed author of Babes in Captivity and The Man I Should Have Married, comes a story of inspiration and transformation for the really desperate housewife. She's old enough to be his mother. Alice has always looked young for her age, even with her graying hair and her dowdy New Jersey housewife style. Make that ex-housewife: Now that her husband's gone and her daughter is grown, Alice is in desperate need of a whole new life. So she lets her best friend Maggie, a hip New York City artist, transform her on New Year's Eve. Soon, thanks to the wonders of hair dye and tight jeans, Alice looks really young, as one night in a Manhattan bar confirms. At midnight, she kisses a boy who was in diapers when she was in high school. She's having too much fun to care. The white lie Alice tells Josh gets her thinking that if no one asks her age, she doesn't have to tell. So she applies for a job she had briefly before becoming a full-time mom - and gets it. Meanwhile, Josh is falling head over heels for Alice, who's just way cooler than girls his age. He figures she's about 29 - and for the first time since she was 29, or possibly ever, Alice feels that life is ripe with possibility. Unfortunately one possibility is that she's gonna get caught. Challenging the adage that the truth will set you free, Younger is a hilarious and insightful story that proves that you're only as young as you feel.

What listeners say about Younger

Highly rated for:

The Story Revolves Around A Middle-aged Woman Named Alice Who Pretends To Be Younger To Revive Her Career In The Publishing Industry. While The Premise Is Unique And The Narrative Is Often Humorous, The Plot Becomes Predictable At Times. Some Characters, Like Alice's Daughter, Are Underdeveloped, And Alice's Own Characterization Is Inconsistent. However, Many Readers Found The Characters Relatable And The Love Story Compelling. The Book Explores Themes Of Ageism, Self-discovery, Work-life Balance, Female Empowerment, And Second Chances, Though The Ending Feels Rushed. Overall, It's An Engaging Read With Both Strengths And Weaknesses In Its Storytelling.

Great

I am about to be 30 so maybe I am a little bit too young to FULLY enjoy all of the themes in this book but I am definitely realizing that youth is fleeting and I love the characters in this book. I love how she realizes things she wants for herself and grows in the book in ways that I am realizing I am currently growing myself. I started watching the show and the main character reminds me of myself and my best friend combined. I'm not sure which came first but the casting for the show AND the audiobook is spot on. One of the few books I read where it and the show did equal justice to the stories, even if there are some variations. Looking forward to seeing what else this author has out.

Wonderful story

This was a wonderful story that would appeal to a vast majority of women of any age. Very relatable! I highly recommend it.

Great idea

Cute and encouraging idea for a book. Not in one of my top 10 books for the year but decent enough.

Length

Series was better than the book. Not very detailed, lacked substance. Not a fan at all

Light hearted

A tad unrealistic that any 40 year old noatter how young they look could pass as a 20 year old and really fool people especially after bearing children

Fun light story

A comic tale of youth revisited. I found myself laughing out loud at this clever telling. The main characters are likable and the gentle plot twists keep you guessing. Not a classic tale; but a wonderful read with only a small number of fairly discreet sex scenes.

A different view of Younger as we know it! spoiler

A different view of Younger as we know it, in a good way.
Maggie having a kid? Kaitlyn is now Diana? well I guess Diana is now Kaitlyn... haha.
The writing was great, the story moving and funny and different from the TV show, but in a good way.
I love no Charles. In the tv show he's just added to add conflict. In this book, in this original idea, Josh is the only one for Liza. Or Alice? well, the names are close enough.
Kelsey is Lindsey, and has red hair, LOL. She's still a damn Queen.
I thought the book added an additional layer to the story we know from the TV show. I KNOW ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND, but six seasons is much more content than this audio book.
the performance was truly amazing. I loved the way Liza(fine... Alice) sounded, I loved how she voiced Josh and Maggie and the annoying brat(for the most part) Diana(Kaitlyn....)
I couldn't really find a physical copy of this book so this came in useful and I also enjoyed it a lot. I look forward to the next book Older, in which Sutton Foster is LIZA!!!!!!!A great deal for me on Audible. GOOD JOB. TO THE AUTOR, TO THE NARRATOR, AND TO THE LOVE STORY OF JOSH AND LIZA❤ #TEAMJOSH

a highly enjoyable read

being a 39 year-old wife with young kids, and working full-time, I could relate to Alice in the story. there's a lot of change that goes in a woman's life from single to engaged, married to Motherhood, then empty nester. The Assurance of finding oneself again. the story was interesting, engaging, and fun. Narrator did a great job

A slice of life type of book

I found it very entertaining but a bit predictable. The MC did not evolve as quickly as the story advanced so it felt a bit rushed at the end. Also, the culmination left me wishing for a better ending.
