After two divorces, Sandi Walker, entrepreneur extraordinaire, is on her own and loving it. As a devout animal lover, she has made a success of the only gourmet pet food bakery in Midland, Texas. She's also a pet foster parent and has 15 assorted abused and unwanted animals at home. When a golden-colored stray dog with an abundance of personality appears at her door, she can't refuse him and she can't keep from falling in love with him. She names him Waffle and gives him a permanent home.
General manager of the Flying C Ranch, Nick Conway, has searched for months for his lost dog, Buster. Giving up on ever finding him, he looks for a new dog and finds a puppy at a pet grooming shop. While he went to the shop to see a puppy, he also encountered a beautiful redheaded woman he can't put out of his mind. Little does he know that she found Buster in an alley and has now claimed him as her own. Sparks fly between Sandi and Nick when he steals Buster and sues her in court for custody. It will take a mouthy parrot, a sitting judge, the matchmaking skills of the Domestic Equalizers and Cupid himself to resolve this conflict.

Where does You Can Have My Heart, but Don't Touch My Dog rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love a book that stresses rescued animals. It's the only one I have listened to on that topic and I have listened to a lot of books, plus it was very funny!

Just not good
The plot was not the best. The narrator was not good. Compared to the other books in the series, this story definitely did not meet the standard.

Simple & predictable, but fun!
This story was predictable, but I enjoyed it anyway. It is an easy read that will make you laugh. Unlike the other books in this series Debbie Sue and Edwina are not the main characters and there is no real crime to solve. The real stars of the show is Jake, the African Gray parrot and the narrator, Pam Dougherty! I didn't think anyone could beat Peggity Price as the Domestic Equilizers, but I was wrong! Ms. Dougherty nailed it!

Original Story
Dixie Cash is a new author to me. Pam Dougherty did a fantastic job with the performance on this book. As an animal lover I totally got the character Sandy. This book had lots of unexpected humor. I loved the African Grey parrot Jake and his wisecracks. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

Disappointing
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Pam Dougherty?

The reader made all Texans sound like idiots! She made Debbie Sue and Edwina sound like country bumpkins, which they are not. It was hard to listen to due to the reader slaughtering the story. Please don't ruin another Dixie Cash book! I have all of them, but this one was AWFUL, due to the narrator.

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises.
The narrator Pam Dougherty did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Narrator not the best
After the first 5 books it’s hard to listen to someone else do Edwina, and Quint, the rest of the characters weren’t to bad. Story wasn’t as comedic as the others either, then again may have been the delivery.

Jake is my hero
I loved this book and all the characters! While I assume Sandy and Nick were the primary characters, I found that I was more wrapped up in Waffle (he will forever be Waffle to me) and Jake than the humans. I am an animal lover and I have adopted a few too many (my husband would say) so I felt an immediate kinship with Sandy. Nick was a knight in shining armor, cleverly disguised as a dog thief, although his character was believable and not overdone. They were thrown together by circumstance and it was obvious their love-hate relationship was a bit unbalanced - to the good. Aunt Ed and her crazy life was a fun side story. But, no one in this book held a candle to Jake. I've been searching for an African Gray to add to my menagerie and I am more determined now than ever to find my new feathered friend... muffins, poop scooping and all.
Narration was on point and I never felt as if I was being read to, only that I was a part of this story. By far the best compliment I could pay to a narrator, in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I will be looking for another by Dixie Cash immediately!

Loved the parrot, hated the narrator
Narrator did the parrot very well, but should have been hired for just that one part.
The story was interesting enough, tho the writing often made me cringe. Many very misogynistic scenes, along with inane conversations. Don’t recall her other books being like that. I listened to them a long time ago tho and the narration was so good it may not have been as noticeable..
This narrator’s cadence was so annoying, returning the book was constantly in the back of my mind.
The character of the parrot was hysterical! He cusses ALOT tho, so beware to you that are sensitive to that. I loved it! Haha

Excellent Read!
Time well spent on "You can have my heart but don't touch my dog." I found myself laughing out loud anytime Jake the parrot had something to say and I hope to read about him again. The narrator did a great job bringing to life the characters. And of course I think anyone would enjoy this installment to the Dixie Cash books.Defintely recommend to anyone that wants a fun read.
