About this listen
There's no time like the present, but there's no place like Yester Year...
When Paula Frederick gets a weekend job on Dream Rock, a former prison island that now serves as the world's largest leisure destination, she can hardly believe her luck. Dream Rock's outlandish surroundings are a welcome break from her studies. Paula's fully costumed role within the island's smallest zone, a medieval-themed amusement park called Yester Year, seems set to allow for even more immersive fun than she imagined.
Not even hazing from some mean-spirited colleagues can dampen Paula's spirits - at least until a trip through the wrong door reveals that the old stories about some kind of mysterious vortex beneath the island might have been more than fanciful rumors, after all.
Full immersion in the world of centuries gone by was all fun and games...when there was a way back.
Yester Year is a long-awaited time travel story and the latest in a new series of Sci-Fi Sizzlers: stand-alone short stories from international best-selling author Craig A. Falconer. These stories can be listened to in any order - dive in today!

Story
Every night for the past four months, I've dreamed of being chosen for the trip to Calbora. The others have grown comfortable in the safety of the station's bunks, praying their names won't be called. Not me. Every day since we got here, I've looked up and wondered. Not anymore. No one can know the real reason it matters so much, but one way or another...I'm getting on that ship.

Story
I wasn’t supposed to survive. The station has been hit. Everyone around me is dead. I have 11 hours of life support left and no way of contacting Earth. I’m alone. I’m stranded. I’m desperate. But I’m alive. The more of the station I explore, the surer I get that this was no accident. Someone did this, and I don't think they're finished yet.

Story
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Story
Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.

Story
When Oliver Naughton joins the Tenth Avenue Writers Underground, headed by literary wunderkind Wilson Knight, Oliver figures he'll finally get some of his wild imaginings out of his head and onto paper. But when Wilson takes an intense interest in Oliver's writing and his genre stories of dragons, aliens, and spies, things get weird. Oliver's stories don't just need to be finished: they insist on it.

Amusement park fun with a twist.
I'll start off by saying that if you are confused why the main character is changing into her work outfit, it's because she works at the part of the park that's styled after the old days. That wasn't clear and confused me for a bit. It was explained later but would have been better to understand the reason for it because it broke my immersion a bit.
Interesting method of time traveling in this one. Would recommend!

Humm?
I had trouble with this one. I love the narrator and the overall premise of the story is fine. I just had trouble with the female protagonist. Perhaps the author meant to emphasize her youth, but I found her to be very insecure and unable to assign the appropriate responsibility to the appropriate people. Her reactions suggest a view that young women are poor decision makers, are more than willing to blame others, and expect others to solve THEIR problems.
Spoiler Alert:
I thought this would be better for a younger audience. To me, a 12 year old is fully responsible when they go somewhere they were not invited or given permission to. Others are not responsible for your poor judgment. That not withstanding, I do recommend the story. Too short for a credit, but if you buy it you may enjoy it.
