Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

A trip to the south
A lovely story about all the eccentric characters that are the women of the south. They care about each other and you will care about them and their stories. The narrator does a good job of putting you in Mississippi. I enjoyed this book.

Loved, Loved, Loved this book
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I wasn't sure what I was getting in to with this book, but I absolutely loved it. You don't find many books that address the passion in an older woman's life. There is life after 50, after all. The author did a great job of bring humor into the lives of these women. You need to listen carefully because it addresses the lives of four women and their closeness in a small southern town. In places it was soooo funny, and in other places I had to find a tissue. The narrator, Terri England, did a great job with these women, the men in their lives and their families. Great job on the southern accent. Looking forward to more stories on the lives of these four women.

The Best Kind of Friendship
The Women of Washington Avenue have the sort of bond that inspires the best in each one of them. This is the base of their stories, romances and dilemmas. Author Linda Apple imbues personality in each character. Narrator voice Terri England keeps each one separately identifiable. I enjoyed the story even through a few predictable sections. After all, we know there will be happy endings and solved mysteries. While I prefer reading to audiobooks this was done well enough. The drawback was England’s representation of male voices. And I did wonder why the Southern belle who lived in NYC for decades had the strongest down home accent. And there is copious description of eating and drinking. Never mind. It’s a fun book. Relax and enjoy.

Better than I'd expected
This is one of those books that I always hesitate starting. I am more into a fast paced, thrilling, supernatural, twisting plotted tales with storylines that I can usually deduce the ending of but are so intriguing I can't put them down. So, when I pick up a book that seems to be mainly about people and their lives, I hesitate. Then I get sucked into the story, as I did with this one.
The characters are fun, vibrant, strong women. They are all of a mature age and have lived through many life events. They are all well rounded, intelligent individuals.
While the book is about them and their lives, it's even more about love and friendship. Love weaves throughout their lives and relationships.
Familial love, sisterly, best friendship love, and romantic love all play a part in this interesting take of the women of Washington Avenue. There are secrets, a mystery, and romance in the book. While it wasn't a pulse pounding, action filled story, it did keep me wanting to find out what would happen.
I felt that the narrator added a lot to the book. She voiced the characters well and put plenty of emotion into their stories. You can easily tell which character is speaking and how they are feeling. I think she did a great job.

Loved, Loved, Loved It!
I'm an admitted news junkie, so I found Linda Apple’s book to be a delightful escape to a warm, Southern-comfort kind of place. I sank into pages filled with love, friendship and romance as told through the eyes of four women as different as night and day. The humor and love shared between the women of Washington Avenue not only made this book a must read, it also made me grateful for the friendships I have in my own life.

You go Girls!!! I love it!
This was an amazing story. I loved the multiple romances, amazing friendships, and fascinating characters. It was so nice having older heroines. Well-written and just a joy to experience. The narrator did a good job on everyone except the New Yorker accents. Being raised in NY I could tell but it wasn’t so bad that it ruined the story. I’m so glad I bought this book and will be reading more form this author. I highly recommend it.
