About this listen
He is the future sultan, a man who wields brutal magic and only knows how to be what they’ve made him. She is a commoner, a woman who champions the vulnerable and treads where she does not belong.
Dilay Akar is the daughter of a judge. By day, she trains the wealthy in magic, and by night, she breaks the Sultan’s laws. But even those closest to her do not always appreciate what she is striving for, or believe that she can achieve it.
Omar Sabri is the Sultan’s tool, flaying minds open to obtain their secrets and truths. Everyone who looks at him sees only the prince—or the monster. Even he cannot see the man beneath the power and the position.
When Omar secretly enlists Dilay’s help in controlling his magic, it sets off a chain of events that will reshape Tamar for generations to come. Dilay will have to choose between the familiar and the powerful; between people she cares for, and whether to hurt one to help many.
The Wheel turns for balance in all things, and where love springs, may also spring hate.

When a trip into the forest to collect a rare mushroom goes horribly wrong, I find myself falling through a fairy portal and straight into the arms of the Unseelie Fae prince. The dangerously unhinged and handsome Unseelie Fae prince. What could be more horrible than that? He thinks I'm an assassin sent by the humans to kill him, not a biologist. Determined to kill me first and rid himself of the human he has unwillingly grown obsessed with, yet also needing to entertain his people, the villain challenges me to three deadly trials.

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned. As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. Piper MacLean’s Christmas is a ho-ho-horror show, but she’s used to all that by now, five years into becoming the de facto matriarch of the family—still single and childless, much to everyone else’s chagrin. But she does have one indulgence every year: finding the perfect Christmas tree. While searching the national forest, Piper is led to a beautiful spruce by way of magic. Well, not actual magic—magic, of course, doesn’t exist—but it sure feels magical when she hears the voice of her deceased mother floating on the wintery winds, telling her just which tree to chop.

Chanterelle Cottage is Charlie Sparrow’s whole world. The cozy spellshop where she and her moms practice their witchcraft, selling goods and services to the people of small-town Owl’s Hollow, has been in her family for generations. Okay, business has been a little slow and a recent burglary hit their inventory pretty hard. And the bank may not agree to restructure their loan. Story
Ava is committed to vengeance against the man responsible for the death of her parents. The same man, the queen's herald, kept her prisoner for two years, until she escaped with Luc, a warlord bent on vengeance just as fierce as her own. He's forged a powerful army of people from all through the region, called the Rising Wave, to march on the Kassian royal family and smash its corrupt power under the weight of their anger. But for Luc, just as for Ava, his true motive is a lot more personal.

It was an offer too good to refuse: spend one month in the most haunted house in the world. When the reclusive owner of Duskwood Manor opens the door to five teams of paranormal investigators, there's no way my team can say no. But there are no ghosts here. There are monsters. They live under my bed, in my closet, and watch me from the shadows, whispering filthy visions in my ear at night. Begging me to come with them to their world—the Void, where the monsters roam free . . . where they teach me what it really means to want.

As the half faerie daughter of a human king, my days were spent tucked out of sight—until the Seelie Fae sought an alliance with our kingdom. In exchange for my father’s help in defeating their Unseelie enemies, I would wed Atakan the heartless. The Seelie prince loathed everyone, but none more than me. I can turn into a housecat. It’s a fun magic, except in a world filled with vampires and werewolves, it doesn’t exactly make me a powerhouse. Instead, the supernatural community has classified me as an outcast, which means one thing: picking on me is open season all day, every day. The local fae are the worst of all, and it’s during one of their regular “capture the cat-girl” sessions that I shift into my cat form and meet HIM for the first time.

Pretty good
I put off reading the prequel because I already knew that they don’t really get a happily ever after, at least not for very long. But I saw a post on Reddit where everyone said that it was their favorite book in the series so I started it. And I did enjoy it a lot. It hooked me enough to keep going with the series and read the next book on KU.

Better than expected
I wasn’t hesitant to read a prequel when I was already engrossed in the main story. That worry, however was unfounded and unnecessary. This prequel does contain tons of hints, breadcrumbs and Easter eggs for the plot of the main series. At the heart, however, is another stirring romance filled with trial and triumph as the wheel demands. J D Evans is an author of remarkable talent.

Incredible story, brilliant narration
My expectations were low for a prequel but omg this might be my favorite book in the series. The character development, the magic system, the relationship dynamics are all done so beautifully.
I read this after book 3 which was perfect.

Such a special series
This entire series has stolen my heart. The writing is so beautiful— the world created, the believable and nuanced characters, the unique system of magic…the romance. I love everything about it.
On top of that, the narration is SO well done. My favorite of any audio book I’ve listened to.

Wind & Wildfire
So many twist and turns!
I must start with book 1 and do a bing read!
Well read and awesome writing!
The battle and betrayal are in the house of visers (I know that this is mis-pelled) and the Sultan and his queen.
Who ever marries the son of the sultan had better have a strong backbone!
I strongly recommend!
If I remember correctly there is a happy ever after ending!
J. D. Evans I love this series!
I think you have a new fan!

Enjoyable introduction
Enjoyable romance between Naime's parents Omar and Dilay and their bitter-sweet friendship with Berham Kadir. I loved Omar's fun personality considering the horror he had to live with. And Dilay shows us where Naime got her vision and determination. We also learn why Behram Kadir is the way he is.
Reading this prequel makes Omar's situation even more heartbreaking in Reign and Ruin.
