Whiskey God: the glass is full
Before I heard the audio book version of "Whiskey God" I wrote this review of the paper back version -
"It seems my favorite forms of art doesn't submit to an expectation of pre-ordained boundaries. The relentless high stakes of Robin Mountjoy's "Wiskey God" takes no prisioners. While the story has a natural fit with a noir framing, I'm also reminded of my love for an out-the-mind ride of a Cronenberg film or a spiraling Kafka stroke of the pen.
I wouldn't be surprised if hearing the audible books would be like wise as mind bendingly enjoyable."

The description is way better.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
I really thought I would like this book from the description, but I found it very disjointed and confusing. Maybe this is a back story to provide some clarity for some later book, but it made no sense to me. The narration was good and the story touched on many themes that I love in a book, but this didn't do it for me.

Short Fun Listen
I loved the character of Detective Jesse Copeland and all his demons and reptiles. The short is short but really holds your interest with the narration. Recommend to anyone who likes something a little different. A Good Start to a New Series Hopefully
Whiskey God was an interesting listen. It was definitely noir-ish. I think this could turn into something good. This is book one and it felt somewhat disjointed making it hard to follow. I don't know if the narrator is being directed by the author in using several different voices.
David J. Bell's narration was good. He has a nice voice with a deep tone. I would have liked it better with a straight read rather than the characterizations. Subtle voice inflections are easier to follow.

Riveting Noir style book
Robin Mountjoy has written a hell of a book that pulls somewhere between a Clint Eastwood and a bogart classic in the intensity and the moral looseness of its main character. The kind of cop you want but fear all the same time. Well put together and the characters really develop. Looking forward to more of this kinda stuff.

A Gritty, Story Flavored With The Supernatural
A strange quirky short story that seems to be the beginning of a series. Detective Jesse Copeland is a functional alcoholic who is progressing toward non-functioning. A colleague is murdered and strings are pulled to put Copeland on the case. “Whiskey God” starts out making you think it will be a gritty, noir-styled, police detective story. Then the author goes and throws in a supernatural element that adds a nice complexity to get the reader/listener even more interested. When the end came, I was invested. I wanted more. The only thing I didn’t like about this story was where book one stopped.

A new take on a familiar genre
From beginning to end, the story never stops giving. There is not stopping on this wild ride. The narration is cool and crisp - a perfect fit for the noir-like feel that the story provides. I can't wait for more from Mr. Mountjoy. I'd love to hear more from this exciting universe he's created.

I couldn't stop listening
What made the experience of listening to Whiskey God: In the Beginning the most enjoyable?
It's a gritty, poetic noir with just the right amount of suspense to keep me listening - even when I was running late and literally needed to stop. If this is Robin's first audio book, I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are real and gritty and feel almost legendary. Without exaggerating - there is not even one boring or slow moment in this book. It's a freight train of adrenaline and booze headed for what just might be the end of the world
Which scene was your favorite?
It's hard to pick just one but the opening scene and the dream sequence at the cemetery are two of my favorites.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Drowning in destiny

Super entertaining read!!!!
This book whisks you away on a colorfully written story that is really hard to tear yourself away from. It's so well written that you just feel like you are not only reading a story but that you are actually there experiencing it. The characters are well thought out and smart. Overall it was a GREAT book and I hope Mountjoy comes out with something else soon.

Noir genre with a unique voice.
Holds your attention with a genre that's familiar. What separates from that safety is the authors unique gritty characters I get the feeling a lot of research could have been first hand. lol Twist and turns, you betcha. As far as the voice over performance I find it that I engaging with out pushing. I can't wait for part two.
