About this listen
Let's Get Down to the Truth
You know the "prosperity gospel." The "name it and claim it gospel." The "political gospel". The messages being preached on at least 90 percent of religious television. But what about the Gospel? What was it the apostle Paul was "unashamed" of?
Most Christians don't understand what the true Gospel of Jesus is. In our church sanctuaries pastors neglect to preach the fear of God and eternal punishment. Church communities have grown to believe that all are saved and none will be lost. Meanwhile many other Christians lack assurance of their own salvation and focus on sanctification as their only ticket to Heaven.
They ignore what was historically introduced by Jesus, filled out by the apostle Paul, and articulated by the 16th-century Reformers. The Gospel has been brushed to one side, and evidence of this is seen in how churches are misleading and even mistreating people.
It's time to bring back what it really means to be saved.
Respected author and theologian R. T. Kendall sounds a wake-up call for churches across the globe. Whatever Happened to the Gospel? seeks to reacquaint you with the Gospel and reignite a passion in your heart to know more of God.

Story
Pharisaism is one of the sins that angered Jesus the most. Yet we are often in bondage to it without realizing it. How can we recognize the warning signs in our own hearts and lives and be set free? Do you consider yourself a better Christian than others? Do you enjoy pointing out others’ faults while ignoring your own? Do you fail to practice what you preach? If so, you might be a Pharisee - a modern-day version of the religious leaders in Jesus’ day whom he condemned for their legalism and self-righteousness.

More of God is about moving beyond faith. It is about getting more of God and experiencing more of God. Every book in the Bible, especially the books of the New Testament, is written for this purpose. Take the letters; those who are addressed were already saved. But the writers wanted their hearers to experience not just more knowledge about God but more of God. Everything in this book is designed to make you hungry. As you listen, keep in mind that the ever increasing hunger for more of God is from God.

Pride is often the true reason why we get our feelings hurt, why we feel rejection, why we won't admit to mistakes, why we want to be seen with certain people, and why we stay angry. Jesus gives us the perfect example of a powerful life lived without conceit, smugness, or arrogance. So why do we not want to admit to our pride? It is because of our pride! In The Power of Humility, R. T. Kendall challenges us to look deeply into our hearts and motives to recognize the pride and self-righteousness there.

Story
In this spirit-inspired teaching, respected scholar and theologian R. T. Kendall uses Jesus's parable of the 10 virgins to describe the condition of the church in the last days. Many Charismatics and Pentecostals assume that what we have seen in the 100 years since Azusa Street is the final move of God before the second coming. Kendall explains that this is not so and reveals that a movement of the Holy Spirit 100 times greater than anything we have seen - indeed, the greatest since Pentecost - is about to unfold. It's time to wake up!

Have you ever seen God move tangibly in a powerful worship service? Have you also been unmoved or unaffected by a lively sermon or worship experience? How can you discern when the Holy Spirit is authentically moving or when a counterfeit spirit is producing manipulation? If the dove is the symbol of the authentic Holy Spirit, then the pigeon is a symbol of the counterfeit spirit. Unfortunately many of the claims to the presence of the dove among us are nothing but pigeon religion.

The Gospel According to Jesus challenges Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, "What does it really mean to be saved?" He urges listeners to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obedience.

Once a person really admits their helpless, sinful condition and accepts Christ as their Savior, can that person ever lose their relationship with Christ? The difference between Ironside's treatment of the subject is that after making his case for the Eternal Security of the Believer, he deals carefully with verses in the Bible which would seem to teach otherwise.

Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Five hundred years after the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, many people - Christians and non-Christians alike - view it as a conflict about issues that are no longer relevant to the church. But what if the Reformation still has something to teach us? What if the doctrines so vigorously debated and defended by the Reformers still matter today? In this accessible primer on the Reformation, Michael Reeves and Tim Chester introduce listeners to 11 key questions raised by the Reformers.

Jesus Christ did not die on the cross so you and I could have a nice day. Ministers and teachers who water down the Gospel of Christ in order to make it more popular and appealing may be leading their fun-loving audiences down the road to eternal punishment. This book is John MacArthur's unflinching, unapologetic treatise on the modern tendency to alter the true message of Christianity in order to meet the whims and desires of a culture hoping for nonconfrontational messages, easy answers, and superficial commitments.

A. W. Tozer was a man of remarkable knowledge, an avid reader of Christians and philosophers from throughout the ages. But he meditated on the Bible, making him - like John Wesley - "a man of one Book and a student of many". Combine this knowledge with his acclaimed writing style and you have works like this one, high thoughts of God brought low - yet no less moving - for the common listener. When you set out to study Christ, you want to behold his splendor the best you can. That's why writers like A. W. Tozer are excellent guides.

Story
Samuel Rutherford, born in the early 1600s, faced many hardships throughout his personal and spiritual life. Despite the criticism of his faith, imprisonment for advocacy of the church, and his exile from his beloved hometown, Rutherford was still able to inspire the people of Scotland with his preaching. Rutherford is still an inspiration in the world of Christianity today through the letters he wrote, some of which can be found in The Loveliness of Christ.

Story
Nicholas Herman (c. 1605-1691) was born in Lorraine, France and served as a cook and shoe repairer at a Carmelite monastery. He was only a lay member of the order, and walked with a limp from injuries incurred as a soldier, yet his private thoughts provide a wellspring of devotional insight and refreshment.

Story
Many people believe in God and believe that God is everywhere, but they have yet to experience his presence. What did it mean for Moses to encounter God at the burning bush? How did it change his life and his perception of God? What is keeping you from experiencing his presence in your life? It was in that burning bush experience that Moses began to understand and appreciate the sacredness of worship. Through this book, Tozer teaches how proper worship has to be equal to the one we are worshiping, so if we are worshiping God, we must do it on his terms.

**A never before released volume from Spurgeon on life in the Holy Spirit** "Dear Christian, the Spirit is at work in you. Don't be discouraged. You may feel like God is sick and tired of waiting for you to get it together. Well, remember that the fruit of the Spirit is also a description of the Spirit himself. He is loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and in control. You are in good hands." —J.A. Story
We present in this audio an outline that may at least serve to suggest the way to a greater spiritual power for many of us. Or, as the title intimates, each major idea may be a "path" leading to a life of abundant grace promised in the sacred word. Let us remember that a path is merely a way toward something; it can never be the thing itself. A knowledge of the truth is not enough; the truth must be followed if we would realize in actual experience the blessedness that is herein described.
