About this listen
Do these images of Jesus on the cross matter to you? Do you ever think about Jesus on the cross, about what it means and why he is on the cross? Does it have anything to do with us or with you?
After all, hanging on a cross is a death sentence. The Romans, used crucifixion as a death sentence more than two-thousand years ago. This form of punishment was a very slow, excruciating method of carrying out capital punishment. Only criminals experienced this form of execution.
For Jesus, his punishment was even more severe than the typical criminal. “Finally, Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified” (John 19:16). Then the real brutality began.
How could the God of the entire universe ever
be placed in a situation where he would have
to go through something like this and Why?
As you reflect on your life, perhaps you feel empty inside, you know something is missing. You are searching for something but you just can’t put your finger on it. You continue to wonder; is this all there is to life? Is there any meaning? Is there something better? Why am I here and what is my purpose?
If you have just the slightest feeling that something is missing in your life, I urge you to keep searching. There are plenty of resources you can turn to, to learn about God. Don’t stop searching!
I know many of us as Christians have done a poor job of sharing our gospel (good news) of God with you, in fact were not just bad at it, we can be terrible at it. Not only that, you may have witnessed the ugliness that “Christians” sometimes show to others that don’t believe in God. I know “Christians” can really be bad at times. We are not as perfect as we would like everyone to believe.
We can be prejudiced, hurtful, unloving, sarcastic, rude, and just plain mean. We get so zealous about what we believe we get angry and frustrated when talking with others and our anger gets the best of us. This is still no excuse for our bad behavior, it’s just reality. The point is I know many people turn away from God because of Christians, and that’s very unfortunate. If you have ever been hurt by a Christian, please let me apologize to you. I am truly sorry that a Christian hurt you. I know a lot of people who have.
We know we are sinners and we know we need help. We cannot overcome our faults without help. That’s where God comes in. Only God can help us in the mess we have become. We will never be perfect, in this life, but we must keep trying. We can only get better by seeking help from others and from God himself.
So why should you keep reading?
The only answer I can give you is “hope”!
We all need hope!
Hope is the only thing that can keep us going and looking forward to better things ahead. Hope is the only thing that can sustain us when times get hard, and they will. Hope can give us peace and the determination to keep trying, even when others tell us to give up.
But in hope, we need to have something, or someone, to put our hope in.
That’s why so many people need God. God gives his people many promises, and we can hold on to those promises. If we put our hope into a person, any person, we will only be disappointed. No one is perfect. Everyone will let us down. No matter how wonderful a person may seem to be, everyone has issues and flaws. In the end you need a better source to place your hope!
This book will help you learn more about God and give you enough information to help you make that decision in whether or not you can place you hope in God.
Only you can make that decision.
