About this listen

After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today’s leading master of what Tolkien called “secondary creation,” the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own.

Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn’t like his job, and the immortal who’s still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago.

Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren’s capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people.

By using breath and drawing upon the color in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery, and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

Performed by Dylan Lynch, Elizabeth Jernigan, Colleen Delany, James Konicek, Tim Getman, Steven Carpenter, Ren Casey, David Coyne, Richard Rohan, Ken Jackson, Amanda Thickpenny, Lily Beacon, Scott McCormick, Mort Shelby, Christopher Graybill, James Lewis, Thomas Penny, Nanette Savard, Eric Messner, Terence Aselford.

Laughed more than expected

Overall it was a good story and great performance. I'm glad the characters thoughts were included, it helps togive a well rounded character. And also having a narrator helps tie the story together. I've listened to a full cast book before and without these elements I felt I didn’t get the complete story or full essence of the characters.

Great job by Sanderson.

Great story and performances. The background sounds can get a little annoying at times though as they can make it difficult to hear the words. Another awesome Cosmere story.

The characters

This story felt a bit like a fairy-tale. 2 princesses, an enchanted king and 2 kingdoms on the brink of war. The worldbuilding was great, but the characters were even better. I loved the sisters and their character growth, but the best character must be Lightsong, the lazy half-god. He had me grinning all the time. The magic-system was good, but I felt that its usage could have been better.
The voice-acting was top-notch. The accents and voices were terrific. The soundtrack was sometimes a bit too loud, but is was all in all a very entertaining listen.

Great narration! Back ground effects are a little distracting at times.

Great story, great narration, sometimes the background noise or music was just too much and overpowered the story.

The story

It was unique as are most of Sandersons stories. As are the happy endings. I'm a sucker for those and he hasn't disappointed me yet.
