About this listen

Jodi Burkitt is alone again. Her ex took everything with her—the friends, the fun, and the daughter that Jodi had loved like her own. She's got plenty to distract her from the empty days and nights, especially her latest home renovation project.

When Jodi discovers a hidden jewelry box in the walls of the home she's renovating, she turns to her ex's friend, librarian Michele Galveston, to help piece together the mystery inside the box.

Michele Galveston is anything but a quiet librarian—she sings in a local band and has a talent for never following anyone's rules but her own. Michele has a reputation for rarely staying with a woman for more than a few months and Jodi knows she should steer clear. But the closer they get to solving the mystery in the jewelry box, the closer Jodi and Michele get to each other.

Will Jodi risk her heart again—especially for someone as emotionally unavailable as Michele? And will Michele finally find a way to trust someone enough to share the secret she's kept hidden for so many years? With Jodi's wounded heart and Michele's love 'em and leave 'em history, it's likely that love songs and life might be two very different things.

Contains mature themes.

This story was great with its backstory of characters but the main characters were frustrating at times. Michelle mad you want to scream at times.

Love the backstory!

The story keeps your interest the entire time, Abby Craden did a great job narrating, as usual!

Awesome

SPOILERS: This ending was so abrupt I can only liken it to being violently shook out of your sleep. Things finally heated up since the whole book had been about Michele being infuriating then out of nowhere Michele lets her guard down FINALLY literally at the end with a half baked love scene. The author is good of course but it’s like she either got tired of the story or had to make a deadline and my god why was Michele so incredibly possible there is just a lot of depth missing where it could have made things more rich. She’s a great author so it’s worth the listen still just try not to have a heart attack by how abruptly the story ends. Give us an epilogue at least.

Abrupt Ending Like A Car Crash

I just finished listening to this amazing story, and I will admit it caused some moist eyes a few times! The mystery of the house and the story of a love lost years before was well written and kept you wanting to know more. The only real drawback I had with the story was the persistence of Jodi for a woman who apparently didn't care for her. In the real life, I believe most people would give up after a couple of years of pining for a person who won't surrender to the obvious desires they have. Perhaps that's why Jodi didn't give in, but that's for her to know.

What A Great Story!

They so belong together, but omition of truths kept them apart as lovers and occasionally friends for so long.

Aggravating

Sweet

There were a few times I almost put the book down because the characters are messy. Then I realized that people are messy and love stories are too. I wouldn’t say it’s gritty but it’s also not Hallmark and I was glad I kept listening. It kept drawing me back in. This is the first time listening to this author and I will listen to or read another. Slow burn and interesting b storyline. If you had an issue with Bridges of Madison County, you may not like this story, as that was my only issue with the story.

Slow burn with sweet ending

I loved the variety and complexity of the characters. The mystery was so captivating and emotional. A sad but very real tribute to the historical realities of women who loved women. To others, hang in to the end-feel all the emotions- it so worth it.

Frustrating But Wonderful
