 Wenlock Whispers is the 3rd book in the Wenlock series. It is not a trilogy but there are links between the three books. Edmund is sitting with his back against a tree. He does this a lot, especially towards the end of the day, when his chores have all been done. He has a feeling inside him that something is about to happen. He isn’t wrong about that, but when it does; it still catches him slightly unawares and makes him jump. ‘Fighters will come. You must not be there when they do.’ He hears the soft voice next to his ear saying this, but he knows from experience that when he turns, there will be no one there. There isn’t! But that doesn’t mean he ignores what the whisperer has said to him. To do so would be endangering his life and the lives of those around him. Elizabeth is the whisperer. She lost her life trying to get her family to escape an impending disaster. They wouldn’t listen until it was too late. Some survived, but Elizabeth and her father did not. Now she returns from time to time, to try to save others. Eventually she and Edmund actually come together in person. From that time on they are together through time, trying to save lives. That brings them to the current day. Have they found, or have they been found, the right time to be able to live their time together in the real world? Along the direction of Barrow Street towards the Raven, there is a man walking towards them, well in their direction. He is tall, maybe six feet tall. He is walking in an unhurried fashion, not in a rush to get to wherever he is going. He is dressed in black. His shirt is black, his coat is black, his trousers and shoes are black as well. He is wearing a brimmed hat which is also black. It is pulled slightly forward, shielding his eyes a little from the light. His head is slightly bowed forward too, which makes is hard to get a good look at his face. The man in black lives in Wenlock. He appears to be the go between. He can see and hear Edmund and Elizabeth. Nobody else can; yet! They can only achieve what they are here for with his help, so it would appear to be. Just before the sky lightens, a darkened figure walks in front of him and stops for a second. Instantly he knows who this is; he has seen them before. The black gown with the hood over her head is exactly the same as he’d seen her the first time. That time though, she had been a fleeting figure crossing his path. She hadn’t stopped that time. It was only later that she let him find her and help her find herself, so to speak. But today she has stopped in front of him. She has not turned towards him, but he knows it is her; he knows it is Anne. She knows she has his attention. It would be hard for him not to know she is standing there. She knows he can see her; he has always been able to. As he steps out onto the path towards her, she turns briefly towards him and then away. That brief second is enough for him to be able to verify it is Anne. That is what she has done that for. And now there is Anne. The man in black has helped Anne before. Now Anne is back to help the man in black, as he tries to help Edmund and Elizabeth Action & Adventure Fantasy Historical
